Martin Murray vs the three of them are all probably good fights but they are all much better than the rest of GGG's resume for sure. Even though GGG may bring more eyes to the fight, he can't be acting like the "A" side until he beats an elite guy. Just my opinion.
I also don't like catchweights so I agree on that point. Having said that Ward has a history of negotiating tough so probably that is why they said 164 as a starting gambit.
Geale...2x TITLIST. Beat solid contenders for his shots. Murray...unified LINEAL MW champion....undefeated in 30+ fights. Far more accomplished than Kessler. Geale....about on par with Froch til GGG BUTED him. Rubio...wins over several of the best fighters of this era including the reigning IBF MW champion. GGG decimated him in 4 minutes.
ROFL. :roflatsch His win against Kessler alone > GGG's resume entirely twice over, his win over Froch beats it 10x, win over Dawson beats it 3-4 times. Come on now. atsch
My thoughts as well. It's a negotiating tactic that did NOT belong in public discourse. This fight needs to be at 168 or GGG will not get the respect he covets.
No damage control, just my objective opinion. I am a boxing fan first and want the best fights in the proper weight class. GGG - Ward at 168 is one of the best 5 fights to be made in the sport and I hope it happens real soon.
I don't mind seeing this as a 50/50 split, 168. Ward does deserve a bit more though because he has made more in terms of recent purses and is the much more accomplished fighter. It would be a good fight. In Oakland of course.
50/50 if it's in Oakland (which doesnt matter anyway cuz Dre cant draw flies). They can probably make more money in a different city but what do I know...?
Wins over accomplished TITLIST are wins over TITLISTs. And I would argue that the MURRAY WIN.....ESPECIALLY THE COMPLETE Domination of him...arguably trumps everything Ward had done.
