Golovkin turning pro at age 24 is a large reason why hasn't move up in weight

People keep asking for Golovkin to move up in weight. And one of the reasons is because that's his original weight class. And they see people move up in weight all the time, sometimes multiple weight classes.

But you have to keep in mind that since he turned pro at 24 his body was basically done growing. You see these guys who turn pro at 18 or so and they move up in weight by the time they hit their mid 20s. It's not like they choose to do it. They have no choice. The core, the clavicles, the bones just thicken during those years. And in the lower weight classes that extra 5-6 pounds means you got to move up. And there's not much you can do about it.

Take Floyd Mayweather, a natural 135 pounder. He turned pro at 19 and by the time he was 25 he was at 135 fighting Castillo. Not just for the hell of it. But his body was telling him he had no choice. Now he probably could have stayed at 140 maybe even 135 his entire career had he wanted to, but the cash was at 147. So he did eventually move outside his most comfortable weight class.

But the point is you cannot compare a guy who turns pro at 18 to a guy who's already done growing. Which is common among these Eastern Europeans. If you're turning pro at 25 you're going to need some steroids and/or barbell therapy to add weight and not get fat.

Kell Brook is almost 30 so isn't he already done growing as well?

Brook is a Welterweight and should not move to 160. If I was his him I'd stay at 147.

So why did you keep bashing Floyd for not moving up at 40 years old to fight a Golovkin? Do you have some kind of specialized double standard of who should and shouldn't move up to prove themselves?

I never said Floyd should have moved up to fight Golovkin. IMO Mayweather shouldn't have even moved up to 147. But he did anyways.

OK. But, with so few options where he is at MW, moving up could be a good financial decision. He will just get old and farther from his prime if he stays at MW. The fights will eventually come. But, he will be near 40 when they do. Gotta do something. And I don't mean fighting WWs. If he slaughters Brook, he is going to make his case even worse , as far as enticing guys at 160 and below.

Don't know about that, you one of those full time Floyd haters who will say he needs to do everything under the sun, including fighting middleweights

Mayweather fighting GGG is not a fair fight.

You make a good point, Kell Brook started his pro career at 18 and started in WW. Unless he hasn't grown since 18 he's a bit big for his weightclass.

He's a huge drainer. He can still make 147, but I do wonder if a move to 154 would have been smart.

By 24 Alvarez had already had fought Trout, Lara & Mayweather...

GGG fighting Dominic Wade's of the world.
(Even w/his 300+ Am fights under his belt)

24 isn't that old and he was fighting @ 165 @ 20-22 years of age so he could easily have fought higher
