Anyone think like I do that there's a good chance that like Tyson, Golovkin's style and power just thrashes B level competition but as soon as he steps into a ring against a solid well rounded A level fighter he's going to look ordinary?

I'm just of the feeling that to many people are so focused on power and are overrating Golovkin as a fighter.

Power guys usually look invincible against the average fighter but are exposed against real skilled fighters.

Michael Spinks, Trevor Berbick and Larry Holmes were not B level.

Spinks was'nt a top tier Heavyweight, he beat and was gifted against an old Larry Holmes and he beat C level Gerry Cooney.

    Berbick A level? :lol::patsch

Gifted twice against the lineal heavyweight champion? Please stop embarrassing yourself. You are aware Spinks was also favored to beat Tyson by many respected observers that night?

Maybe you should stick to making absurd threads about how Marquez doesn't roid, because you don't know **** about Mike Tyson or his era.

Spinks was a top tier heavyweight. Berbick was world champ, about as A level as you can get. And after the Tyson defeat Holmes went on to prove he was far from old in boxing terms. Tyson sparked him in 4 rounds, an achievement never equalled before or since their fight.

the tyson who was smashing everyone was not the same fighter who eventually got beat. just watch the tapes and study the difference in movement, speed and focus.
as to your question, i think ggg is mentally and emotionally much stronger so i doubt he will follow the same script.

We still didnt see Golovkin vs A level s until we do we cant compare them, but beside Douglas Mike lost to ATG fighters in Holyfield Lennox both versions were not prime Mike not that i would make him favorite vs any of these two but he was a lot better earlier in his career, only fighter GGG can face to show us how he deals vs A level fighter is Ward and for me Ward beats him pretty easy.

Bottom line here is Tyson never beat an A level heavyweight in his career, if you want to think Michael Spinks beats any of the past Heavyweight greats then I dont think you know much about boxing.

.....and for the record, I thought Spinks outhustled an aging Holmes to earn the title but thought he lost to Holmes in the rematch.

Holmes had come off a very long layoff when he fought Tyson, in any regards Holmes was no longer A level at that point.

Tyson beat some good fighters, but none top tier who at the time Tyson faced them could compete against greats.

Could happen. But Tyson's temperment and disipline let him down in big fights (e.g. vs Holyfield of course) and by living a party lifestyle and ending up in jail he shot himself in the foot. GGG looks to be fine mentally. Time will tell I guess

Mike was possibly the most exciting Heavy of all time.

I like GGG but come on please.

Kinda impossible to say as yet. The thing is there just isn't any top-tier MWs at the moment so we'll only get to find out if or when he steps up to 168 which already makes the circumstances different (although TBF Tyson was always a small HW, so..)

Even at 168 with the imminent departure of Froch and (albeit a diminshed) Kessler there isn't really anyone elite outside of Ward. Thing is I don't think losing to Ward would somehow make GGG 'ordinary'.

If, on the other hand Golovkin were to struggle with the likes of Bika, Anthony Dirrell or Groves then I'd have to reappraise his quality. These are the kind of fights I'd actually like to see him take over the next year or so - if he shows that he can be dominant against top 10 SMWs then I think a Ward fight might start to make sense (assuming Andre resumes his boxing career at some point).

i think that problem with ggg could be that he falls in love with his power and will get outboxed

Spinks was a 6'1 skinny bird chested light heavy I can't believe people rate tysons win over him

    berbick was C level

larry holmes was 100 years old and coming out of retirement

Tyson is slightly overrated. He lost against the two best fighters he fought. He beat no one elite up to that point
