Martinez was a little surprised that Macklin played it so cute early on. He likes to set traps and be the one moving, so I think that's why Matthew was having moments of success. But as TFFP says, he was really just being cagey and keeping it tight by denying Martinez opportunities. As soon as Sergio had his timing down and found a few shots that worked, he stepped on the gas and beat Macklin up.
I think everyone was surprised at how Macklin played it. A real swerve ball and I am sure they picked Mack as they thought he'd be far more gung-ho than Barker. Can't blame him as it was probably his best chance in winning the fight.
I would disagree with that. Both of them get regular coverage on newstalk especially Macklin come hurling day. Lee has had exposure on RTE as a pundit as well as a fighter so I would say they both known figures given their media exposure.
Yes, I admit maybe I took the hyperbole a bit far with Lee, but come on, Macklin? Household name? Froch was forgotten after his fight with Pascal on ITV which made massive wavelengths at the time, but at the end of the day, we were the only ones who really remember that fight
HBO better be paying Macklin well, I just cant see how he can win this fight, in terms of their respective styles
Win/Win for Macklin - If he beats GGG then obviously he make some serious money defending his belts and then probably lose them in a big unification fight down the line. If he loses, he can come back home and take on the domestic 4.
This poll is totally unfair... Macklin is the greatest middleweight ever to walk the face of the earth and will leave a legacy that will leave him as most people's all time p4p champ... :deal
