Golovkin is the most overrated fighter in the general. Anselmo Moreno is a close second. Jpab19 is you see this post, back me up on it.
He's a good fighter, no doubt about it, one of the best at 160. However I think he is overrated in the sense that quite a few people think he would beat Sergio Martinez now. I disagree massively with this. GGG would give Sergio probably his toughest test at Middle, but beating him? I think that's a baseless theory. You can't say that Golovkin would beat the P4P number 3 based on him beating the likes of Milton Nunez, it makes no sense. I don't mean to sound like a twat, but I actually think it's ridiculous to suggest that Golo would beat Sergio. There is no evidence to back that up. Golovkin has looked solid in his fights so far, and I could understand the hype if he had looked exceptional, but he really hasn't. He most definetely hasn't showed anything against current opposition to suggest he is in the Serge mans league. Give it a few more fights at the top level, then we can make a judgement. You can't wrong me on Anselmo though, I'm onto something there :smoke
I dont see the great talent that a lot of other posters are seeing in him either. As ive said before he seems to be fairly basic and one dimensional when considering how highly regarded he is by some on the forum. A few have even given him a good chance of beating Martinez. Cant see that happening myself.
i think hes the real deal. of course we havent seen him have to go into deep waters, but he punches very fast, very straight and very very hard. martinez can be hit with punches, and if he stands and trades like he did in the 1st williams fight, i think golovkin could knock him out.
Don't get me started on Moreno again. Golovkin, he's good, very good. But I think people believe him to be on a level that he's not at yet, but one that he could potentially reach. He's got a lot of plus points to his game, he's got pretty good one punch power an great accuracy, he's a bit slow but he compensates for that with his timing. His ring smarts also seem to have turned over from the amateur's, something you don't see many fighters transition successfully. He doesn't punch in combination anywhere near as much as he should, and puts too much emphasis on finding openings with almost a kind of roundhouse hook, when he looks like he could actually just plant a few jabs down the middle and setup up for bigger and better things. I know this'll sound odd, but it's almost as if his combinations aren't really combo's, more a series of single punches thrown in close proximity to one another. I know thats essentially the definition of a combination, but I can't really describe it, it's like that's no, I don't know the word really, synergy with them. If that makes sense? He has good subtle defensive moves when he is focusing solely on it but he gets careless when he is on the hunt, and gets caught with shots whilst standing square on. Kind of like he hasn't learned to do two things at once yet.
I know it was only in the vests but he dealt with the speed of Dirrell very well and won and the punch he landed on the jaw of Bute to knock him out with heavier gloves on was impressive, also beat Korobov and Lee with ease. Its his footwork and balance that is very good, he can outbox you and knock you out. I agree though that he will have to beat a ranked contender to make people really take notice. If he destroys Ouma that would be impressive.
I don't mean any disrespect to the people that say it, but a few think he's the best at 118 by a stretch. He's also hailed as massively underrated, which I have to say, from my perspective, is a bit ludicrous. He's the definition of average IMO. Given the trouble that Cermeno gave him, I wouldn't be surprised if Parra beat him, although I have a feeling Lorenzo will be undersized. By the way, have you seen the Parra - Sakata fights? They're a decent watch. I totally agree with what your saying. Admittedly, I haven't seen that much of GGG, but from what I have seen, I certainly did pick up the single shot thing your mentioning there. He packs a very hard, accurate single shot, but he doesn't really throw enough combos (Like you say) and there aren't that many dimensions to his game. He seems oddly matured and developed though, as if the style he does have has been mastered to the best of it's ability. It would give most at 160 problems, that's for sure. :good Agreed.
So whats the story with these fights, is it early tomorrow morning or saturday morning that they are on uk time ?
Ya think? I haven't seen any of Parra's recent fights, although he hasn't really recorded any wins of real note since 05. I think watching his old fights recently have put a more vintage image of him in my mind going into friday's fight :yep
