Two guys who've struggled to get fights both have their next contest lined up. Proksa has agreed to face Golovkin on September 1st, despite not having time to have a full training camp. He said he believes in himself and despite the fact that most other fighters in their division are avoiding Golovkin, he wants to see how he will look against the best. I admire Proksa for taking this fight but I think his bravery will backfire. His hands-down style, combined with Golovkin's accurate power-punches seems like a recipe for disaster. I like GGG by ko. Lara has had just as much touble tempting the top guys at 154-160 into the ring but Top Rank have won the purse bid to stage his fight with Martirosyan, which will serve as a final eliminator for Canelo's title. Vanes has done his fair share of talking but was usually quiet when it came to Lara, so I'm pleasantly surprised he's stepping up. I don't rate Vanes' particularly highly, so I can't see anything but a points win for Lara. Although he can be lazy, I think he'll easily counter the predictable Vanes all night. Who do you like? Will GGG and Lara prove why they're so avoided, or will Proksa and Martirosyan burst hardcore fans' bubble and pull the upset?
Also, I'm not really sure if wins here would make GGG or Lara any more likely to get a super-fight. Even if Lara wins, I can't imagine GBP being overly anxious to put him in there with Canelo.
