For me an under-card depends on the fights, not the names... Mungia is always fun to watch but his opponent was schooled by Kanat Islam O'Sullivan I couldn't care about and Lemeuix is just about washed Chocolatito I will always love but he is past his best and facing someone who is even more shot than he
Seems fairly close to being officially reported that Román González vs. Moisés Fuentes has been elevated (likely due to vocal fan demand) to supersede Brækhus vs. Lopes as the PPV card opener. As much as I like Cece and would like to see her gain exposure and receive the big paydays and due attention she has earned before her careers draws to a close - realistically this match-up, based on styles, isn't going to generate any converts to women's boxing, which is a very niche corner of the market. Not only will Chocolatito vs. Moi be far more entertaining, it'll draw in more casual fans who might've been on the fence about purchasing (and might not have if the opener was a women's bout, rightly or wrongly ).
Again I ask: is a clear loss to Kanat Islam really THAT damning? Take away the Islam fight and Munguia's win over Smith (and let's ignore the Sadam Ali win altogether, because you don't get credit for overpowering a guy half your size and chinny at his own weight to boot) - would this really seem a mismatch in Munguia's favor on paper, then? One fight each removed from Cook being the outright fave here; I think people dismissing this one so easily as if Munguia was some long-proven commodity or Cook some bum is a bit silly.
Confirmed: with Brækhus vs. Lopes now called off (a replacement opponent is being sought for Brækhus to still make a voluntary defense of her titles on the non-PPV undercard; while Lopes is scheduled to headline a card in Derry, NH in October in an 8-rounder... ) - Chocolatito vs. Moi has officially cinched the opener spot.
If they added a Max Golovkin-Oscar DelaFishnets no DQ Anything Goes match I'd be ringside to watch that lol
Before a merely good main event I'd get excited about a televised card that also featured fights like these, but, call me a casual, I find before a really big, well-matched championship main event unless the undercard fight is really great I'd rather it didn't exist at all. I'll probably pay half-attention to the Canelo-GGG undercard while making dinner and doing other things. In fact I'd be more likely to buy it if a discount for just the main event was offered. In recent years undercards more kill the mood than whet the appetite for the main event. With only a few exceptions, like Danny Garcia-Matthysse.
