Basically, I'm hearing 2 things: Golovkin is one dimensional... ROFLMAO! And... Clenelo is a technically skilled master boxer. And YET... Golovkin's fundamentals and ring craft are elite level. Golovkin's got an ATG, thudding, and consistent jab that he controlled Clenelo with over 24 rounds. He's actually quite slippery defensively. He gets hit, but also rolls w/ a lot of punches. His footwork is excellent as seen in the rematch. Mini steps back (that Clenelo fans are stupidly calling running) helped to neutralize some of Clenelo's blistering speed while keeping him in position to land his punches. No question that Clenelo is a good boxer, but his specialty is counterpunching, which he excels at. Let's not forget that Lara and Khan made him look like a fool for stretches during their fight. But he was OUTBOXED, YES, OUTBOXED, by Golovkin TWICE. Golovkin outboxed Canelo going forward and he outboxed Canelo going backwards. There's no question that Golovkin is the superior boxer.
canelo is getting better and better so id def say canelo, his defense has improved so much over the years. GGG has the superior jab, that thing is amazing
How can you say Clenelo when Golovkin outboxed him twice? Clenelo's success came from his significant speed advantage. His speed is REALLY impressive for a guy his size.
Canelo is in his prime right now, He is 28 years old. How does a 30 year old version of Golovkin fair? We are not going to know how good Canelo is until we see him fight some other guys. Will he fight Jacobs and Saunders? GGG had a great career and made loads of money off of Canelo. He can't complain in the long run.
This is the best Canelo I have seen. That being said Canelo was completely shut out by Mayweather. I am not sure what this version of Canelo would have done to Mayweather. But I think this version of Canelo still would lose to the version of Mayweather he fought . Canelo can be outboxed. But GGG is a puncher. Canelo has a great chin + good defense. Which makes Canelo pretty much impossible to KO. Kind of like Ali. Great chin + great reflexes makes impossible to KO. Not that Canelo is great like Ali but it's the same principle. I think what happened last two fights was: 1. Golden Boy completely controls the frame of the events. 2. Canelo is peak prime. GGG is aging. 3. GGG the puncher has met in Canelo someone he can't KO and can take his punch. Now he doesn't have an answer to that like is the case with many punchers. If they can't take their opponent out, now what? Long story short I do think Canelo is the better boxer then GGG. Saying Canelo is a counter puncher and not a boxer is splitting hairs. They are the same thing.
Not really. If Clenelo was a superior boxer, who would have been so badly OUTBOXED by Khan, Mayweather, and Lara.
Canelo is good in spots and patches. But he doesn't sustain it. Golovkin is always there, always present and always adapting. Golovkin was very strong and he wasn't able to force Canelo to the ropes this time. That just shows that he can adapt and doesn't need to bully his opponent to the ropes to win. He looked comfortable in the middle of the ring. I scored it a draw, but that is only because Golovkin's stamina let him down in the final half of the fight, particularly the last 3 rounds. In the first half of the fight, he was 4-2 up on my card. 3 or 4 years ago and I think he wins the last 2 rounds clearly. The amateur record says it all. The jacobs fight says it all. You don't overcome a height advantage like that over 12 rounds unless you know what you are doing. I think Canelo struggles against a height advantage of that extent because his offense isn't as good. Jacobs' long arms and height will allow him to keep his range and will leave Canelo swinging at thin air. He doesn't have the same jab as Golovkin and therefore doesn't really have any tools to close the range down.
