Per latest article of Dan Rafael and Twitter sources. Derevyanchenko is still in the picture, and even if Team GGG don't want it Derevyanchenko's team are going to ask the IBF to force the fight . I suspect they have a good chance of getting a positive response as the last mandatory was two years ago.
This would be the most interesting matchup at middleweight and a very difficult fight for Golovkin. It would be nice to see Derevyanchenko finally receive a decent payday. He's not getting any younger.
I think this is a tough fight for GGG. Derevyanchenko has over 400 amateur bouts and 23 WSB fights, so the experience gap isn't huge, and he's in his prime whilst Gennady is not.
Funny thing is that the IBF gave us garbage (Wade) instead of a good opponent (Korobov) two years ago. Will they make amends by giving us the Derevyanchenko fight?
This is definitely the best scenario for GGG. Fulfill his obligation to fight his IBF mandatory opponent, who is a legitimate threat.
IBF isn't going to force anything. Not with 4 week notice. Golovkin's side won't stand for that. Golovkin's team has already made a legitimate contractual offer, apparently per The Ring, to that one Mexican 21 year old kid.
Oh yeah, Wade, I'd genuinely never heard of him before that fight, and never heard of him after. I'd like to see GGG-Derevyanchenko, would be my preferred replacement of all the contenders.
That would be a great fight. It's about time Derevyanchenko got a big fight to show how good he is... I think he's a P4P type talent.
