Not in recent years, but I used to. Got through to Mike & The Mad Dog once when Don Mattingly was turned down from the HOF in his initial year of eligibility. And my old man and I used to listen to Imus a lot back when he was on the Fan, always referring to Francessa and Russo as "Fatso and Fruitloops".

I have no idea what you're trying to say here. :huh

My point was I don't need to pay to watch the Yankees, Giants, or Jets, and that if that was the case in boxing, I'm betting more people would tune in for big fights.

You say if not PPV, we'd be "paying some other way or another"?

If it wasn't PPV, and big fights were as readily available on TV as a Yankees game, then how would they have us paying some other way? What are you talking about exactly?

Boxing isn't ever going to be "free" on TV. That's a pipe dream. Sorry. It's a business.

If you weren't paying for the big fights individually on PPV, then they'd probably have people make a subscription in similar ways that you have to buy the NFL Ticket or NBA League Pass.

And idc if you don't have to pay for baseball. If you don't have to pay a subscription to watch all the baseball games, then cool. I'm not sure since I don't watch baseball. However, that's the minority since most major sports require paying costumers to have unlimited access to it on the TV.

So again, if there was no PPV, they'd have us paying in some other way whether that's a subscription for multiple matches, a network, or whatever.

I don't really want to argue over this. There was never a need to argue.

Well, some boxing actually is on free TV. And last I checked, the NFL, NBA, MLB, NHL, etc were all also businesses. So I'm not sure how you're drawing the conclusion that in order to be a successful business, free TV is somehow automatically excluded from the equation.

    OK.

The YES Network, which broadcasts NY Yankees games is part of basic cable in my area. When the Yankees aren't broadcast on YES, they are usually either on FOX or ESPN, also included with basic cable packages. I can't watch every baseball game, but I wouldn't want to. I can watch every Yankees, Jets, and Giants game, however.

    Here's the thing, though:

You don't have to pay anything extra to watch the Super Bowl, or the NFL playoffs, or the NBA playoffs, or the MLB playoffs. And while I don't watch much golf or tennis, as I understand it, their biggest matches are also readily available without the need to pay additional fees just for the privilege of watching it on your television set. We can see the biggest football games, the biggest basketball games, the biggest tennis matches, the premiere golf tournaments, etc - without that need.

Boxing is the only major sport with significant history I can think of where you have to pay additional fees each and every time you want to see the biggest fights.

My point all along was that more people would be watching these high profile fights were it not for the excessive cost.

How much do those season pass things typically go for, curiously? Are they more expensive than $360 a year? I'm sure that includes far more content than what 5 televised portions of a boxing card brings us.

Yeah right, we all know you're going to buy it anyway. You wouldn't miss a Golovkin fight for the world. Besides, if you were to refuse to pay/watch it, you wouldn't be able to be much of a Nay_Sayer the next day.

    1. You don't have to buy every single PPV.

    2. NBA League pass is 200$ for the season

    3. NFL Sunday Ticket ranges from 250-400$ for the season.

I agree if boxing PPV prices were cheaper then more people would watch. I'm not disagreeing with you on that. I never have. I wasn't even disagreeing with you to begin with. I just added on to say that boxing is a business, and if they didn't charge for PPV then they'd have fans pay in a subscription or something.

Fans will never have full-access to every fight for free. That's all I'm saying. Now let's please stop the arguing just to argue.

Listen Mayweather vs Pac was a legit PPV , Cotto vs Canelo is a legit PPV, you could argue that Fury vs Klitchsko might be a PPV, I'm not sure though? Ward vs GGG is PPV material, but GGG vs anyone not named Canelo or Cotto provided they are coming off a win is not PPV material, Then again Golovkin at 175, well there are a couple potential PPV'S THERE. The bottom line, if the fans buy into these inferior shows we will be getting force fed PPV fights we should be getting on premium TV and free TV.
Not to mention the fact that why should a fighter take a risky fight when he can get assured PPV fighting a mediocre opponent who through careful match making appears to be a beast. The quality of the game suffers, but these guys are so busy with their head up their flavor of the months assz that thy fail to understand the long range impact of this boolshet on the sport some of us love.

Lemiuex might be one of the worst PPV headliners in a VERY long time. Berto was bad but then again people will pay to see Mayweather. But GGG has not fought anyone and Lemiuex is average at best.
