One could say the greater reward would be Rodriguez though since he's fought on HBO multiple times before :think
if any of these rummors are true and GGG fights anyone of these guys then mad respect... win or lose you just can't absolutly can't say a bad thing about GGG.
Wow props to both guys, two of my favorite young fighters right now. Not sure if I should be excited that they gonna lock horns or bummed that there will have to be a loser. This is a really tough fight to pick a winner. I just hope for GGg's sake that a move to Smw won't nullify his punching power like we saw with Arthur Abraham. Plus which Tommy Oos might be very hittable but he has been in with a few big punchers already and he takes a good shot. Kinda get the feeling Gennady will have to either stop Oos or get a few knock downs. Will be tough to out point a skillful volume puncher with such a big height and reach advantage. Two class acts who clearly love to fight, we should be in for a treat!
Thomas Oosthuizen vs Marcus Johnson is available here: [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G5svN5f5UzE[/ame] Marcus Johnson is 5-10 which is exactly how tall Golovkin is. Oosthuizen will in other words have a significant height and reach advantage. Johnson is also actually rather light in this fight, having fought mostly between 168 and 175. That being said, Johnson is semi-skilled at best, relying on hammering his opponents with brute force. It looked like his body could lose more pounds. His conditioning was clearly lacking. Oosthuizen has good range but his jab is weak. His right is not much better. His best weapon is to use his long arms and volume punching to try to hit anything. T-Gun is not fast on his feet, but has excellent conditioning. With regards to defense, it is full of holes. He basically uses his height to keep his chin out of reach. This also works to limit his power as he keeps his feet to close. His body is not muscular and it would not surprise me if he moves to 175 at some point in his career. The fight was not even close after it became apparent how Johnson relied on brute force to break down T-Gun. Skillwise Oosthuizen was clearly better. After round 5 Johnson was gassed and Oosthuizen started keeping on the outside and scoring. Easy win. Major weakness: it was possible for even 'meatball' Johnson to back Oosthuizen up against the ropes in the first few rounds. Frequently. Anyone who has watched Golovkin vs Ouma or Proksa knows that Triple-G knows exactly how to exploit such situations.
If Golovkin takes Oosthuizen or Rodriguez at 168 then he's a G , no doubt. Both are risky fights for Golo. :yep I really hope to see one of these fights ( Golovkin vs Oosthuizen / Rodriguez ) scheduled on HBO. :yep
Among casuals, yeah, as far as name recognition. Boxing heads would know Oost is the more dangerous assignment, though. Rod can only really beat GGG by KO and it's a very outside chance. A decision loss to the big lefty is a far more immediate threat.
I don't like this at all. GGG is too small for 168 lbs. I don't like the idea of him operating against a big 168 lber that has a good defense and is able to fight off the ropes. I think he'll win but its a fight he could easily look bad in.
I agree fully seems most of the Top fighters seem to hand pick there fights where as this Bloke Will take on all comers, can see why it's happening Gennady has to keep active and no one at 160 wants anything to do with Him,well done Golovkin Boxing needs you.!!!!!
I have never seen his opponent but HBO should atleast tried to get Rubio, another MW, instead of a SMW. Or even Lemiux who just won a few weeks ago to give more exposure to GGG which is what HBO wants.
GGG continues to be awesome. How the guy has haters is beyond me. Should be interesting to see how he does against such a big opponent. Oosthuizen's physical dimensions and style could make it a difficult fight for GGG, but I predict he stops him late.
It will not be official until 11-10 until Oosthuizen faces Fulgencio Zuniga who shouldn't be a threat but did just batter Alejandro Berrio last time out. Not sure why GGG fights at 168 but I hope it is just temporary while we wait for a live name at 160 to fight him.
