Even Andre Ward has fought a title fight on the east coast of the U.S. Canelo can't seem to make it east of Texas.

It's a marketing gimmick by Golden Boy. "Look, Canelo is a big star!" Just like Groves' promoter said "Look, George Groves is a huge star!" But Canelo can't fight where there aren't tens of thousands of Mexicans within a car ride's distance, because then he's not-so-big of a star. Just like Groves wasn't so big once he crossed the ocean and his buds couldn't drive to see him.

Golovkin fights in the U.S. (California, New York, Connecticut). Golovkin fights in England (London). Golovkin fights in Ukraine. Golovkin fights in Germany. Golovkin fights in Kazakhstan. Golovkin fights in Monaco. Golovkin fights in Panama. Golovkin fights all over.

Canelo sticks closer to home than Andre Ward does.

The truth is the fight would make MORE money if it was held ANYWHERE BUT the west coast of the U.S. Nearly the entire world is asleep or just waking up when main events are held on the west coast of the U.S. If it was held in Europe, EVERYONE in the world would be awake to see it live.

It's got the makings of an exciting fight while it lasts.

But Canelo only fights on the West Coast or in Texas or Mexico because that's the only place he can claim he's a big star. And therefore they're limiting the PPV audience to the U.S. And therefore Golden Boy will want to negotiate like their guy is the big star. And that's why we'll never see the fight.

The moment the WBC demanded they begin negotiations, Canelo dumped his belt and fled the division. Because the WBC approached it with a "world view" ... not a Golden Boy "we only fight on the west coast or Texas where Canelo is big" point of view. Globally, it's the best matchup between the two top middleweights. Globally, there's no A and B side.

Everywhere else on the planet, basically, it's just two names in boxing fighting for all of Golovkin's belts. And since Golden Boy won't have that, the fight isn't ever going to happen. Ever. They'll flee the division before that happens (we just saw them do it).

Golovkin doesn't fight for money. Canelo doesn't fight for belts. Sounds like an easy fight to make. Why won't GGG sign the contract?

I personally hate when fights are shown in the afternoon. Watching fights is a late-night type of thing imo. Mainly the drinking/partying aspect.
