"IBF/IBO/WBA/WBC middleweight champion Gennady ‘GGG’ Golovkin wants his rematch with Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez to take place at the Azteca Stadium in Mexico City, Mexico, according to Thaboxingvoice.

The problem with Canelo-GGG 2 taking place in Mexico City is the fight might not pull in the same amount of money as it would if they were to fight in Las Vegas, Nevada a second time. Golovkin doesn’t appear to want to take a chance of having the judges assigned by the Nevada State Athletic Commission take away another one of his victories."

GGG must really be confident that he can win if he wants to go into the lion's den to fight Canelo! Is he making a big mistake?

IMO that would be the best place for the rematch. I would love to see the atmosphere in Azteca stadium 100000 screaming Mexican fight fans it would be amazing. They need to find out a way to make this happen.

I think he might be making a mistake. If he thinks Vegas judges are bad, well, it's never a good idea to take on a hugely popular young guy in his home country unless you are positive that you will carpet bomb him.

Edit: I agree that for the fight itself you couldn't do better as a venue.

GGG isn't depending on the judges he's looking to knock Canelo out.:deal:

It might not bring in the same money, but the atmosphere would be more than badass.

Boxing didn't work well for him the first time around, he was still getting countered. I don't think that looking for the KO is a better game plan.

Maybe he's counting on the fact that it will be hard for Canelo to refuse such offer? Like really what would all his Mexican fans think if Golovkin wants to fight in Mexico, but Alvarez says no? :)

Maybe he intends on going for the body and eating whatever counters Canelo throws at him? I still think that Canelo is going to be vulnerable to the body if a big hitter like GGG goes after him.

This! I think this is why he's doing this. He's saying I'm willing to fight you at home in front of your people. Canelo will look bad if he doesn't accept. It's actually a brilliant move by GGG. I have to give him props on this.

    You may be exactly right.

Oscar and company intend on dodging the rematch and this is a tactic to exert maximum pressure on them to take the fight. If Canelo refuses, then he becomes El Pollo and Golovkin abandons the rematch since it seems obvious that Oscar is planning on going afer Saunders' belt one way or another.

    You win the thread :campeon:

Texas,Germany,England,Australia ...or Mars , Golovkin will get robbed anywhere. So might as well make more money and have it in Las Vegas again and call it a day after that.Boxing is corrupt anywhere-that is the harsh truth.

I would love this, in a packed massive arena full of fight crazy Mexicans it would be an amazing atmosphere and a fight between a Mexican legend and a fighter who pays a good homage to Mexican fighting and is well respected by Mexicans.

However Mexican Oscar would not want his Mexican star facing Golovkin in Mexico. Nevada or no fight.

It's going to be up to Canelo. He controls the rematch option. My guess is that Canelo will want the most pesos and the most corrupt judges. That sounds like Vegas.

Hope it happens. Anywhere but Las Vegas where the atmosphere is rubbish and the judges are bought (yeah would probably be dodgy judges in Mexico also but the atmos would be superb).
