Golovkin was prevented by the boxing politics to make his way to USA much earlier such a shame

Golovkin wasted 6 years in Europe chasing sturm

what would GGG of been if he had came straight of his loss in Athens in 2004 straight to America instead of wasting it in Europe for 6 years?

even after wasting the 6 years guys still avoided him when he came to usa

Well the wasted years were basically 2009-2012 not having his mandatory status enforced then eventually being given the WBA regular belt to allow Sturm to continue on his farce of an existence.

    - Sturm and N'Dam avoided him during that time period

    - He was briefly Pavlik's mandatory

    - HBO debut was supposed to be against Pirog who got injured in camp

    - Pavlik, Martinez, Williams were around, Pavlik unlikely he was MIA after losing to Martinez in 2010 but those other two by 2012 is plausable.

    - Chavez jr could have been a big money fight if he wasn't gelded

    - Geale, Macklin, Martin avoided him for a couple years each before stepping up to the task.

Not much in there too significant in an all time legacy sense aside from Martinez, the timeline for a Pavlik fight was not very probable. Obviously would be nice to have Sturm, N'Dam, Quillin, Chavez on there but doesn't do too much. Pirog and Martinez are the most interesting misses.

This is boxing though. For a sport that can generate so much money when do you really ever get the best fighting the best when they are at their best?

Too few and far between and it's a reason why I think 'casuals' ruin the sport side of boxing

He should have fought Cotto aswell

That’s Why UFC is better in that way, because there is only One belt and the champion must fight with the contender.

It was the WBC fighters that kept stiffing him... Martinez, Cotto.. (it took Chavnelo two years lol) he was mandatory for all of them!! Sturm was B level.. Hopefully he can cement his legacy tonight. He deserves to...

    Milton Nunez be like... "heyyyyyy!"

History will always and forever show that Golovkin fought such a small number of top 5 MW's during his time as titlist compared to how many top 5 MW's existed during his "reign." You can't rewrite the documented rankings across all remotely respectable media/opinion. A very small amount considering he boasts having "twenty title defenses." Literally at most four fighters (Canelo, Jacobs, Lemieux, Geale) during his "reign" were top 5 MW's. That's not very good considering the historical place many place him at. The dude is insanely historically relevant. Just not to the degree that Boxing Forum 24 wishes. He is no Wonjongkam (yes, that is serious, and I'd love to hear anyone state the contrary... would love it). Beating Canelo in this rematch does go a long way for his legacy. It would be by far his best victory.
