did he just have bad night against Jacobs? is he just slowing down, the man is already 35 or was Jacobs just a bad styles matchup?
Jacobs was under-rated by many. The guy was stopped in his early 20s by a top class fighter, the week his grandmother who helped raised him died, and also when cancer had possibly started growing in his body. Because of that, he was derided as glass jawed etc
I just think Jacobs came in a different animal and fought the fight of his life. There are a couple of reasons for that but it's not worth getting into. Margaret Goodman has a good idea why! But in the end it just wasn't enough. Golovkin won comfortably. GGG isn't slowing down. He fought to very good fighters in his last two fights.
A bit of both, Jacobs is a lot better than most people thought, but Golovkin looked a bit slower than in previous fights. I also thought Golovkin looked a bit nervous before his last two fights against Brook and Jacobs, but that was just my impression - could be wrong.
GGG is still in his prime and is very very dangerous. He just made two very bad choices for his last 2 fights. Golovkin vs. Brook? Sure, it boosted his popularity, but some fans say Golovkin was 'exposed' even though GGG literally broke his face. LIKE SERIOUSLY? DID YOU EVER SEE SOMEONE BROKE SOMEONES FACE BEFORE, LITERALLY? COME ON.... Golovkin vs. Jacobs? I knew it was going the distance, but I didn't think GGG would knock him down. Jacobs had so much weight on Golovkin that fight. Jacobs would prepared very well mentally and physically, I was surprised with Golovkin being able to knock that man down. Very very impressive performance by Golovkin. People are so used to him being so unstoppable. No man is unstoppable, he's a human. He is still at his best, but he will decline around 37-38+ years old. That's why I want Canelo-GGG to happen soon so Canelo beats the best GGG.
Jacobs is a lot better than we gave him credit for is what I think. Golovkin still won by some margin though. The more times I rewatch the fight, the more convincedI am.
Golovkin is fine. This was a case of him being overrated, Jacobs underrated. Expectations, as usual, were separate from reality. No bad night.
GGG is not overrated. Jacobs was not underrated. They both are very good fighters. GGG was a little better on that night. Jacobs thought the fact that he could make it through the fight would be enough to get the decision in the US. Wrong. GGG won the fight. He put Jacobs down and Jacobs never hurt GGG. And GGG was forcing the action, coming forward throughout the fight.
I'm a huge GGG fan, but I have to agree that some do overrate him. There's guys that think he cleans out Cruiser
