Steve Kim wrote that Golovkin's fight on Jan 19 might be paired with the Top Rank doubleheader of Lopez-Vazquez and Salido-Garcia. HBO had worries that K2 doesn't have the capability of putting on a solid co-feature and Top Rank coming on board solves this.
Top Rank's involvement may change HBO's mind. It's a pretty strong card, so maybe they will reverse themselves, and take a chance with Oosthuzien.
True. Golovkin won't be carrying the show so there's not quite the need to find as big of a name opponent.
I like the idea of Golovkin vs either Oosthuizen or Rodriguez espceially if he can't get a good 160 guy to fight him on that date. I think Oosthuizen would be a tougher fight for Golovkin and he'd get a bit more credit if he were to win but Rodriguez would make for a slightly more entertaining fight.
Oosthuizen hasn't even made 168 for his fight this weekend and Rodriguez was something like 186 against Escalera. I don't like the idea of seeing either of them try to make 165.
