If Golovkin is aiming for a December 2012 fight on HBO he will have a hard time making it as all the headlines are filled up.
The options available are another network or an undercard fight

Sturm on German TV would be ideal, but is Sturm up for it? Not unless it is his last fight anyway.
Golovkin would travel to Britain and take on Murray. Murray can not fight in the US due to visa issues. This fight could be good and it could be made.
Golovkin could also take on Macklin, but Macklin is less desperate compared to Murray. If Macklin is smart he lets Golovkin bulldozer Murray before he takes a shot at Murray himself.
Pirog in Moscow is not so hot. Possibly hard fight for no real cash. My guess is that they are saving Pirog for an HBO fight later. Fighting him in Moscow on Russia2 TV makes no sense whatsoever.

The US undercard fights available are just Brian Vera or Sergio Mora. Golovkin will have no trouble here, but the fight will interest absolutely no one except his fans. Golovkin - Macklin is headline material, not undercard.
So if Golovkin's management are serious about a December 2012 fight i guess the best options are:

    Likelyhood
    1. Sturm in Germany 1%
    2. Murray in the UK 35%
    3. Macklin in the UK 1%
    4. Pirog in Moscow 1%
    5. Brian Vera 35%
    6. Sergio Mora 20%
    7. Other 7%

Of the above fights it is basically only the UK fight with Murray that could both be made and make any money.
But if Golovkin is desperat to stay on HBO it is time for Brian Vera to step up, at least he beat Sergio Mora to earn it.

Am I happy with this? No - but it is the only realistic matchups so late in 2012.

    What do you guys think?

Martin Murray is pretty much unheard of in the UK, apart from his local area i guess

The only guy less likely to fight GGG than Sturm is N'Kijam, so that's not going to happen.

Ideally, I'd like to see him face Pirog, Geale or Macklin. I'd be very happy with any of those. When you add Quillen, Murray, Barker, Chavez etc, you start to realise how many good fights can be made at 160. I just hope Golovkin is in a few of them.

Geale should stop ducking GGG, as WBA champion he has responsibilities, responsibilities left by Sturm for not unifying with the regular champ, but responsibilities nonetheless. He MUST Face the GGG by the end of the year or gets stripped.

I don't know when he is able to fight again but the Pirog fight and Geale are the best options, Macklin would be decent as well and I think all 3(if Pirog is recovered) are available for a Dec. bout.

Quillen wouldn't be bad but he's fighting in October so that probably doesn't happen. HBO should really try to build up some of these middleweights like Golovkin by fighting each other in order to find challengers for Martinez.

:huh So everyone and their mother was saying that Martinez should of gone to Russia to take on Pirog but its not okay for GGG and everyone seems to agree? :huh

I will say the same thing I said about Martinez, if GGG wants exposure on the US he needs to fight in the US. Fighting in Russia will gain him nothing. The other option he has is fighting in Germany against Strum but we know that aint happening as Sturm sees GGG as a high risk/low reward. Sturm will get more money fighting Abraham than GGG. Gaele vs Golovkin on HBO is possible but don't know if HBO will push for it. **** even Mora/GGG on an undercard just to get GGG the exposure. Martinez and/or Chavez wont be ready for GGG this December.
