Where would Golovkin rate all time if he were to lose his biggest career fight vs Canelo?

This is why this thread has no responses. Fans don't want to think about a guy they like losing ,but it's fighting and someone has to lose or either they fight to a draw and never rematch each other. On the real the internet has made this sport very weird and I'm not surprised that many fighters don't bother reading fans comments because either it's super non combat related bashing or it's homoerotic.

I remember Tyron Woodley talking about the hate he gets on Twitter and a bunch of buttholes were trolling him about paying attention to it. McGregor gets choked out and the same guys were whining about how much of a warrior Conor is and a bunch of other sissified madness. They went into action instead of following their rhetoric that they preached to Woodley.

Point of the story is both sports have plenty of fans who are sissy's, vicariously living through guys who could care less. If GGG loses at least he's $15 million dollars richer and he can pay off the mortgage on that Malibu pad that he lives in.
Good life for a guy that loss brothers to war and could have ended up the same way.

Yea we can't judge his career based on one loss. What if it's highly controversial? Or GGG Gets embarrassed 119-109? What if he loses but then goes on to beat BJS, and then Zurdo Ramires?

Honestly I think he'll be looked at as an average Champ and nothing more, people who don't agree will call it hating but realistically.
Resume is filled with guys who've never achieved anything in the sport outside of Geale who got demolished by Cotto.
The defense record sounds good but how legit is a record that consist of being a JV champ for the majority of that time? Is the WBA Champ and Jacobs has a WBA title is Jacobs a REAL Champ or is GGG the champ.
The first halfway decent fighters he fought he looked bad, add that together and h losing to Alvarez who would be his first truly great opponent especially in a dominate fashion will make people take note of everything I mentioned and say he was just average in the end.

That's the thing about having hype with no substance, if you fall to the first quality guy you meet that kills all previous hype.
At least if you have substances to fallback on you can say I'm still great because of xyz.

On the poll, the option of HOF is above great, which I thought should be the other way around, as I believe a great is definitely a HOF but might not be necessary the other way around, considering the bar hasn't been set really high lately for Canistota entrance.
Assuming he lost to Canelo and retire or doesn't accomplish anything significant, I still do think he is a HOF based on his dominant reign and number of title defenses.
A bit fall short of great status, so either option HOFer or good but not great is my choice.

Depends a bit on how close / good the fight was.

I, like @pincai, consider "great" to be above "HOFer" due to the way HOF has devalued lately. So my vote is "HOFer" or "Good, but not great".

But what will Canelo be if GGG takes him out ??
The coward his own countrymen called him
    An over hyped prima donna
A decent fighter but not in the same league as GGG
Or just Oscars little Nexican Leprechaun

he would still be a hf'er. his string of defenses, ko streak, ams record, and being one half of the biggest fight that can be made in 2017, should be more than enough to get him in. as far as atg, he would need to mount a successful comeback and beat canelo or andre ward, along with some quality defenses.
he may be past it already, or he may just need the right fight, we wont know till the rest of his career plays out.

Somehow he still held a lofty and deserved MW ranking for years. The division was dreadful and he didn't fight the top guys until the last 12-ish months, but he makes up for that in the quantity of lesser but still notable and solid title defenses... He really does need to beat Canelo to begin to match up with the hype and claims over those same years, though. If he can't beat the "light punching," "hypejob," "midget" "Canelito" that his fans and management have been clamoring for and whining about, especially after the very recent less than stellar result in his only other career fight against a top opponent (Jacobs; you could argue for Lemieux being there too).

He needs to destroy Canelo! If one was to sift through all the hate, one would quickly realize that Canelo has a damn good record against very good opposition. If G can make Canelo look as if he never belonged in the same town, let alone the ring with him, it would go a long way to solidify G as a great fighter. Unfortunately for G if the fight is a good fight, meaning a give and take type of fight like 116-112 people will say G is on the slide. Even if Canelo is at his best. He needs to look great in this fight! Canelo just needs to win.

    Depends how he loses.

If he gets a Kovalev 'decision' loss, it will have little effect on how he's seen.

If he genuinely loses, then he goes from very good to just good, and any chance at great goes out the window.

Similar to Hopkins losing to RJJ and Jermain Taylor. I still consider him to be an ATG MW when in his prime.
