Stock went down when he went into semi hiding after the second Canelo fight, Not fighting good & top competition per regular, not appearing anywhere in the media for some time, along with him focusing more on just ranking in money, The third fight didn't help either, just goes to show as the old GGG would have at least bought it & tired harder, but then again with Canelo's power shots coming back at him i don't blame him for trying keep his face unmarked.
Can't really compare a fighter with the likes of Pacquiao to Golovkin but i get your point, The one comparable thing they hold was how the punishment & damage both Pacquaio & GGG took from Margarito & Canelo ending their primes.
His stock is about as high as it can be for an aging, fading 40 year old MW. He would be even money with any MW in the world today, but yeah he boxes far better than what he gets credit for
Margarito was in his prime when he destroyed Cotto & scared Floyd into "retiring" AGAIN!!! Tony was away from boxing for 3 years, couldn't even train no licence since that Lying Richardson started the Plaster blocks lies & the CSAC destroyed his career & tarnished his good name with no proof to back it up. Canelo never ever punished or damaged GGG He blatantly robbed him blind TWICE though. Jeez even at 40+ Canelo couldn't really beat him GGG waited 2 rounds too long to start beating on Canelo . At the final bell Canelo was exhausted he could not have lasted 2 more rounds
It was just sad as GGG was 40 and he clearly beat Canelo in their previous 2 fights but he did prove that even at 40 years old that he is levels above the likes of Berlanga, Munguia, Ryder and Charlo.
After the first two fights, it was clear GGG couldn't win the third fight. If he somehow koed Canelo they would find a way to DQ GGG. GGG was old and well past prime in the third fight so he did better than I anticipated.
