Canelo has great defense and is a great counterpuncher so Golovkin is not gonna throw caution to the wind against a guy like that. I would be disappointed if he did and he'd surely lose the fight. Don't forget Canelo is a HOF fighter and Golovkin took Canelo on smack in the heart of his prime.
Golovkin has never been a Tyson. He's an intelligent pressure fighter that has a wide punch variety and likes to fight from behind an elite jab. He builds his win and maintains a constant offense through the fight. If you want Tyson back, then you can watch Khurtsidze assuming he ever ges out of the clink. One of the reasons that GGG has such a great gas tank is because he fights at a measured and deliberate pace through the fight. He doesn't get flustered and his defence is the bare minimum to get te job done; he wastes no energy. He's like Jaws on cruise control. The Jacobs fight was no surprise whatsoever. GGG was always going to respect Jacobs' power - and Jacobs can really hit - and fight from behind the jab. Golovkin did a fine job of negating most of Jacobs' offense and taking him apart with the jab. All this said, I do agree that Golovkin needs to mix up his game a bit with flurries now and again. Not only will it keep his opponent guessing, but when a guy is on the ropes he needs to make him pay for it. The judges seem to be impressed by that sort of thing too.
Aren't you one of the people that we're saying how easliy GG was going to knock Canelo out beacuse of his "cement feet"
If Canelo had been the same fighter we'd seen previously, Golovkin would have stopped him, for sure. He wasn't. Canelo levelled up in the meantime and displayed qualities that he'd never really had before. I didn't like his running all night, but it definitely worked for him and kept him from getting KTFO.
Golovkin *was* a killer. I don't think he was mis-sold at all. Four years ago he was steamrolling through the division, nobody wanted any part of him and for good reason. However, the other top challengers simply waited for him to get old and slip a little. Golovkin has simply adjusted his style to be more methodical.
Before Canelo fight, certain people around here we’re claiming that being under spot lights is going to cause him trouble as he has no big fight experience and that’s an undeniable advantage for Canelo. Some people are trying too hard to play down who he is and what he’s done so there’s no surprise that not stopping his last two opponents while clearly beating both (#****Byrd) at the end of his career is somehow held against him. These two just so happen to be nr.2 MW in the world who fell on his knees and thanked god that he lasted 12 and a future HOF in his prime who also gave a performance of his life just to not get caught and survive. “People say I’m a machine, I’m not, machines brake.” GGG.
People go on about Tyson not stopping Tillis and green. Pretty sure if I remember right there was something like a month between the two fights which is pretty unheard of nowadays fighting two decent challengers in such a short period of time. Reckon with longer preparation Tyson would have stopped the pair of them.
It's actually pretty intelligent of GGG. He gets punched in the face by a guy with real power, feels he can take the punch but would rather not get hit w a bomb again so is more careful. Think that's called changing his game plan? Ring Intelligence and knowing your limitations? He's aged a bit and knows he's slowing down? Gets punched in the face for a living and still has the smarts to know when to engage and when not to by a hard hitting, 12lbs weight difference guy? Ok, tell me again that this is Nauseating.
No I was not. In fact I gave Canelo props for putting up such a good effort. It just wasn't quite enough tho
It is sad, but it’s normal. What would be truly horrible is if his accomplishments are mixed with mud just because he didn’t KO fighter A and performed a little worse than expected against fighter B. He’s not TBE (or simply didn’t have a chance to prove he is) but this humble killer deserves respect.
