If he actually ditched that "in the trenches" style that he has developed then I would agree with you

as much as i like gomez... burns would beat him easy. Lets not get carried away here. Appart from that flash knockdown in the khan fight, gomez got ripped a new one. He should retire.

He didn't show what he's got left in the Khan fight..... He didn't perform on the night... remember mate i've been training with him every week... I've seen what he's got left and he's really firing in the gym... He came within a whisker of beating Johansson and against Khan he fought a superb sharp-shooter who gave a career best perfromance.I've been watching him spar and sparring with him and he's benefitting from his new trainer and more disciplined lifestyle. My thoughts anyway.

but can he show that in a fight jeff. I watched him in glasgow on the watson-limond undercard against baz carey and he looked a shadow of a prime Michael Gomez.
Even if he is to come back in better form, he'll never be what he was at his best, which is what he would need to be to beat burns.

Does he perform better in the gym mate ? Matt Macklin was saying when they were at billy grahams he was awesome in the gym and when switched on unbeatable at domestic level(3/4 years ago).Discipline seemed to be his problem from what i could make out though !

Carey was all wrong for him .... Gomez has his weakneses but when you watch him in the gym sparring the likes of Jon Kays and Chris o'brien... both light years ahead of Carey in terms of capability he looks a million dollars. I wouldn't say it if I didn't believe it.

He's training very well these days. I hope he can put together some sort of ressurgence based on what he's doing in the gym.
