No. He'll get destroyed by Alvarez as badly as he did by Cotto. Maybe not as efficiently, but inevitably.
Don't count out Gomez on this, Canelo isn't prime Cotto and Gomez fought that fight with a broken hand and coming off a serious illness in the middle of his training camp. Canelo hasn't been tested at all with his low level of opposition, and most of that opposition has effectively just shown up for the paycheck, no ambition to win. Gomez has that ambition, he will come in and throw a lot of punches, plus he has pretty good boxing skills, he's a bit slicker than Alvarez is. And when it all breaks down, we really don't know much about how Canelo responds under fire, how good his chin is, etc. At the least, the fight will be competitive and Gomez has a decent chance to win it.
This is a better version of Gomez than the one who Cotto fought. Either way, Canelo better look impressive otherwise the criticism will multlply tenfold.
Alvarez might take him out earlier, he has a tendency to throw caution to the wind when he thinks he can take someone out. Cotto was always pretty good about watching his defense. Be patient, Canelo might get there, but he's not at a prime Cotto level quite yet.
Any version of Gomez gets wiped by elite fighters. If Canelo doesn't beat him up and get him out of there it's a problem. I'm pretty sure he will though.
