What are Carlos' chances in a rematch? Wilfredo didn't dominate, he just landed the first big bomb. Could it have gone like the Vazquez-Marquez series?

Gomez out-classed him almost as thoroughly as many of his other opponents around that time. He would often use a few feel-out rounds to find the range and dictate the terms of the bout, he was just more cautious with Zarate than the typical opponent, for good reason. I doubt it's ever going much differently, regardless of whether or not Zarate was in the best of conditions.

I think possibly Gomez would've hit Zarate a few more times AFTER knocking him down. That version of Gomez was lethal. I don't think it's much different.

He outclassed Zarate big time, he would always have had the ability to outbox and outpunch Zarate at 122, he was a sublime boxer and perfect foil for some who had to set his feet as Zarate did.

It makes me wonder how others watch boxing. Gomez COMPLETELY dominated him. What are you watching?

The age old anology of the great big man beating the great little man rung true here as it so often does. Of course it rung true again when Gomez was whupped by Sanchez. IMO it would have rung true again with Arguello beating Sanchez. Of course Pryor beat Arguello. I reckon SRL would have beaten him handily. The line was finally interrupted when SRL beat the bigger man in Hagler.

The great small man beating the great little is quite rare and very historic. Duran turning the trick with Leonard is another great example even if not backed up in a rematch. ATG win.

There should have been a rematch anyway.

Zarate & Gomez had trouble making weight.

Then Gomez hit Zarate while he was down.
If the fight had been in Mexico, then Gomez
    would have been DQ'ed.

But Zarate was never the same after that fight,
    and Fight 2 never happened.

I scored it without doubt for SRL as did the judges so it stands ok for me personally.

But he did fight well & Zarate deserved the decision against Pintor, But then again before the Gomez fight. Carlos might have blown out Lupe.:think

Zarate's scale he had in Puerto Rico was away off and he did have trouble making weight. I like him in the rematch
