Man i was hoping Gomez would look good in winning and by all accounts he did. Gomez since moving up from Cruiserweight has stalled and not acheived his true potential. Maybe no he can start to fight regularly and with a purpose.
He dominated thru the fight...i didnt see it, a friend was keeping me updated from germany over the phone, round by round...says he looks good, speed, even power b/c dropped virchis in round 5...so lets see who wins peter-vitali..
If this is true then Gomez could be a real threat to the winner of Vitali - Peter. I'd pick him to outbox Peter with ease, and against Vitali, **** it'd be Vitali's best opponent outside of Lewis his entire career.
Gomez always had the ability to do some big things at heavyweigt. He just never was dedicated or consistent enough to fulfill that ability. Beating Virchis is a good win for him and I hope he really makes a serious run for the next couple years. Age might play a factor in there. But right now I think he beats Peter by a wide decision and Vitaly is an interesting fight.
Dear Juan Carlos Gomez: You have gifts that other boxers would kill for. Please, PLEASE focus from now on.
Pretty much the way I expected it to go. Virchis only had a puncher's chance as Gomez was always the better boxer. This result does not surprise me one bit.
Forgive me for not knowing, I abandoned the HW division a while ago, but is Gomez in good shape, or is he another Arreola or Peter?
Don't get too excited, Gomez seems to be past his prime already, it was enough to outbox the extremely crude Virchis but I doubt that he can go that much further in the division. He should have used his opportunities some years ago, he was better then - well maybe he can still win a belt.. probably the fact that Gomez was in bad shape this evening had also something to do with him looking not as slick as before. Anyways, Gomez proved again that he has a good chin, he took some big shots from the supposedly monster puncher Virchis, and took them well.
I called this one correct. Even a broken clock is right twice a day. Gomez is a good boxer, and he's apparently got a solid shin, as well. Should be a worthy mandatory for Vitali when he gets his WBC title back.
Gomez should've won this and he did, he can win a world title and a fight with Vitali would be interesting. I remember reading of how competitive Vitali ad Gomez's sparring sessions were in Germany.
