Hey Jimmy I am happy to admit my ignorance regarding staph (Amongst many other things!) and I do know that it is very contagious, but why is it so common in mma competitors? I appreciate that it could easily be passed between fighters (Due to close-quarter grappling) but I haven't heard it that often in boxing and sparring is very often at close qurters. I guess that is the diseases incubation period is such that those infected would not realise they were suffering from it before they have already Spread it, but are there other factors that make mma fighters more susceptible to this serious infection?

That's a little harsh isn't it. The guy is far from a bum and has the skills to be in there anyone. He just finds a way to lose once he steps up in the competition. I don't count him out in any fight.

You may have misunderstood me slighty. I said from what I hear hes a overatted bum you know from the boxingcar's of the world. I think Gonzaga has as much ablity as any Heavyweight in the UFC and would give him a shot to beat ANYONE including Fedor. Although I wouldnt exactly favor him just saying he has serious talent.

Gonzaga's kicks are nasty he knocks people down with leg kicks alone 2nd Werdum fight and ****** McCully, we know about his head kick, he has pretty good wrestling remember he put Shane Carwin on his back and his JiuJitsu regardless of what some people say is outstanding you dont win the Mundial if you got pretty good Jiujitsu you win it when you are an elite grappler and Gonzaga won in 04.

Only real problem with him to me is just mental when you push him like with Werdum and Couture he breaks aside from Carwin's freakish power when you dont get a chance to push back Gonzaga rolls over you. I wont ever forget the Cro Cop fight I dont think its possible that in September 06 Cro Cop kills Barnett and Wanderlei (before Wanderlei started losing alot) in the same night then in April 07 he is all of a sudden "shot" that KO was IMO the most brutal ive seen and Cro Cop has been gun shy since, mentally he is a shell because of that fight.

There is body on body contact in boxing, but a lot less. Also sparring takes up much less of the practice in boxing; if you are grappling you are body on body almost 100% of the time. Also in boxing you don't make contact with the floor; in grappling one guy can infect the mat for everybody; even if you wash the mat after every practice it is still there for that one practice.

Also top MMA guys train with top MMA guys all the time, both team members and guests there for whatever reason; this is almost unheard of in boxing. So you get one guy with it, he goes to several gyms with other big time names, they do the same, all of a sudden a bunch of guys have it before anybody knows they have it.
