schaeffer should put out that contract like what he did with donaire (this time, liable lf the fight doesn't happen, unless it's rigo's fault) if they are serious because i think arum would gladly take a backseat, get his cut and let gbp/showtime make the fight.

It's not going to happen. Rigo vs Gonzales could happen. That's the difference.

 

Didn't Rigo say he wasn't moving to 126? And that was after he dominated Nonito and there were talks of Rigo vs Mikey Garcia. Rigo vs Garcia WAS more doable since they are both with TR and it didn't happened. The Gonzalez fight I see it impossible to make, specifically now that GBP wants that belt back with them (Russell jr or Mares rematch)

 

Dude, Rigondeaux is 32 years old he already grow up to his limits it is a shame that he came to this country so late, but that is the nature of the beast, Castro abolished professional sport in 1959-60, he started as a 85-95 pounds fighter and he could easily move back down to 118, the reason he sign it with Arum was Donaire, they have to put on the contract his name, Mares could come down to 122 because he has no business at 126, Agbeko, Santa Cruz, they are a few good fight at 122...

 

Rigo vs. Gonzalez is not happening even if Rigo wants it. GBP has a controlling interest over Gonzalez. They are not going to allow a Top Rank fighter to possibly come in and high jack the title and take it back to HBO. That would be bad business. Gonzalez just dusted off one of GBPs top stars. Gonzalez will be fighting nothing but GBP fighters for the foreseeable future or until he loses to one. Expect to see Russell vs. Gonzalez next.

 

Haymon and Russell are on board with a Gonzalez fight. It's pretty much a go for the fall.

 

No one is excited to that Rigondeaux is inactive, it's just absolutely absurd to use Gonzalez's call-outs, made I must add in the full knowledge that the fight simply can't happen, as a basis to go on about Winky Wright economics and Rigondeaux being an idiot.

If I was Russell's management, there is no way I would put him in with Gonzales at this point.

If it's going to be another Ponce De Leon situation, if I was Gonzales, I would bypass it and focus on the more dangerous, and probably more well known, Rigo who should go up 4 lbs and fight Gonzales if he wants the money.

This is a very risky fight if true. Russell hasn't fought anybody near Gonzalez' level yet, who is a tall orthodox fighter that prefers to box and has power.

He also has arguably the best coach in boxing to help him with his game plan.

That is a lot for an undersized southpaw, especially one not named Pacquaio, to handle.

If this fight does take place, I expect him to KO Russell. It will be very hard for Russell to get close enough to Gonazles to let his hands go.

But props to Russell if he wants to fight this guy. He'd probably be better off fighting Mares though, due to styles; however, I don't think he's ready for Mares either.
