Gonzalez would've been a good opponent why did he turn it down? When I first looked at the rankings after it was announced that he would be facing the highest rated available contender in an eliminator, I thought it was going to end up being Barrera or Edwin Rodriguez, both of whom were around the 10 spot give or take a place or two either side. Gonzalez wasn't ranked in the top 15 then IIRC.

Because it's really pointless to fight Beterbiev at the moment. Fighting him means an almost certain defeat and you don't really make money either. If he beats Kovalev later and becomes a big draw then everyone will line up to fight him as the payday will be worth the loss. Kind of like Anthony Joshua's situation.

Good for Gonzalez to turn this down.
If he fights Betebiev he'll probably win and get cheated like he did with Pascal.
Better for him to fight someone like Fonfara who doesn't have the inside connections like Beterbiev.

Beterbiev reminds me of a bigger, stronger and harder punching version of James Kirkland with a better chin.

Beterbiev is another highest risk, low reward opponent. Unless his promoter/TV/Haymon throw some serious money, he will have to fight bums.

What a disappointment that he had to turn down the Kovalev fight. I am sure it was not his idea. Haymon is the main suspect.

Told everyone yesterday Gonzales would turn this fight down. Just like he turned down Kovalev. The guy fight pascal on even terms after Kovalev shell shocked him and a bunch of you are now taking him seriously. Apparently Gonzales knows his own limitations.

The main reason what happened to him in Montreal with Pascal you learn from your mistakes.

Karo Murat has never been stopped....the Cleverly stoppage was the most asinine thing I've ever seen, he was sitting there totally fine the bell rang and the ref waved it off. The epitome of a BRITISH STOPPAGE This will be a good test for Artur.

But alas poor Karen is getting wrecked.
