Schaefer mentioned this fight as a possibility. It looks like he talked it over with Haymon, and both Haymon and Russell are on board. It will be interesting to see how Russell handles a quality opponent. Mares will probably be in line to fight the winner.
It looks kind of doubtful at this time, thus according to some news I just read. Not impossible, but improbable, at this time...........
Why in the hell would Mares even consider fighting Gonzalez again? Don't forget who Jhonny's trainer is. Nacho is one of the best in the business at making adjustments in rematches and another KO loss to this guy would probably ruin Mares. He's still got the PonceDeLeon rematch or Vetyeka if he wants an easy belt.
