I don't think Pernell Whitaker ever ducked anybody, he fought both young and prime Oscar and Tito, moved up to a weight class to grab a title he didn't want to defend, etc. in his first championship fight that guy J.L. Ramirez had like 100 victories, 80 something by way of KO, and he really did handle Chavez like nobody before or since, since Chavez was not completely exhausted for their fight.

I don't think Duran avoided anybody, he fought Barkley, De Jesus three times, Sugar Ray twice, Hearns, Cuevas, Benitez, Camacho, Hagler, Joppy (should have avoided that one).

I agree with Hagler, and Oscar really did make the big fights, mad props for making the Hopkins fight, you don't duck winky to fight bernard. I think Tito WANTED to fight the best, its just at the very elite level his skills were limited. (and that's like saying a ivy league college professor of math is limited next to the creative Physics applications of Einstein and Oppenheimer)

Glenn Johnson never ducked anyone, but maybe he doesn't qualify as good.

Climbing fast up into the LHW ranks after moving up, beating the WBC champ, going straight to beat the number one guy in Chad Dawson, and the all time great number one BHop. And despite fighting into a draw against BHop, he is already talking about a rematch against him or Dawson depending on the situation...

 

Duran didn't get the chance to fight Cervantes or Arguello in the 70's. Not saying he ducked either of these guys, per se. But the fights didn't happen.

Hagler fought pretty much every credible middleweight there was to fight in the 80's, sometimes more than once. About the only one he missed was Dwight Davison, and that's because Davison took himself out of the equation by losing to Tony Sibson in an eliminator. There was also talk of him moving up to face Spinks, but MMH was always married to 160lbs, so that shouldn't get held against him.

Chances are, you're gonna miss someone who would be deemed a credible opponent no matter how good you are. But as long as you fight opponents who are credible in their own right, that still means you're a good champion.

 

err the floyd vs oscar were being discussed from november when floyd beat baldomir and then was signed on the january, when was mosley supposed to fight floyd in between that?
