Did I dispute any of this? Hopkins during his time at mw was not much above 160 between fights. That´s just fact. Hopkins also did not weigh around 170 pounds at fight night like Pavlik or Taylor. He was a tall mw and historical surely big but in these days he wasn´t really a big mw compared to those guys.

Hopkins wanted to beat DLH without using his physical advantages, it didn´t work as well as he wanted to - so he was still winning - and so he ended it. Not a special performance but also not a bad one either.

Imo Hopkins is a better fighter than Oscar, I don´t make any p4p lists, too much speculation in the h2h department.

I stick with my opinion. At no time to me did Oscar look like he was in with a chance.

I agree but that doesn´t mean he didn´t have a place in there. Griffith also had no chance against Monzon and nobody argues he shouldn´t have been in there.

Oscar also looked in much better shape and allround much better than against Sturm - I think in this fight Sturm showing his career best performance and Oscar totally understimating him leaded to Oscar looking worse than he really was at mw.

I agree, I'm not saying he didn't deserve to be in there. I'm just talking about the actual fight. I think most of the fights mentioned in this post were only mismatches in hindsight. Some of them, not even mismatches in hindsight, Gomez Pintor for example.

"Just" was "just" a typo on my part but Willard was certainly NOT out of shape have you watched that fight? Also Willard was the betting favorite.

Delahoya didnt weigh in on fight night, Hopkins weighed 170-172 :thumbsup It should also be mentioned Delahoya set the weight limit at 156 catch weight instead of 160, to weaken the older Hopkins

BTW Delahoya has always been a weight drainer, weighing 160+ in the second Chavez fight. You better believe he'll be in the 160s against Pacquaio :-(

Of course Griffith had a chance against Monzon.Hell, he almost beat him in the rematch.

Griffth was much much better in general than any of the nineties welters.A master.

Saw video of this one. What on earth did he get in with Fullmer for?

Interesting, seeing how hard he hit Paret, that Fullmer didn't have a big KO record.

Sadly, the hiding Paret took from Fullmer probably contributed to his demise from the Griffith fight.

mel was a huge guy, especially his shoulders and biceps. his tailor for his suits had to rip off a pair of sleeves from a far bigger jacket and stitch it on a medium build suit.

also norris rarely made 154 he was usually 150 or so, only 3 pounds above welter. all the other light middles were big tall drainers. while norris was a 5'9, t-rex armed, weak chinner
a possible reason why many welters took there luck agaisnt terry than against rossi or vasquez.

great call mate.dave charnley a helluva lightweight and seemingly now much forgotten.the griffiths fight was his last and although well beaten he still managed to go 9 rounds with emile.a couple of fights before charnley had given world ranked british welterweight champion brian curvis all the trouble he could handle over 10 rounds before being out pointed.my old man swore by him, charnley was his favourite fighter.
