I actually disagree with Pac. He prefers midrange but on the inside he does some good work too.

Also im surprised no one has brought up Lara yet. I have been saying for a while. That kid needs an inside game bad. Then he would be nearly perfect. His inside game is one of the most lacking when it comes to the elites.

 

Despite popular belief, Tyson wasn't a great inside fighter.

He had an inside game, but surely it wasn't as good as advertised, Holyfield exposed his lack of inside game and abused his successful exploits.

Like Teddy Atlas said, and even if he's a Tyson hater, I agree with him on this:

For a 5'10 heavyweight, Tyson surely does not punch out of the clinch very much, in comparison to guys like Jack Dempsey and Rocky Marciano.

 

Agree Ward is more versatile but I still think Bute beats him...But he will have to walk through hell to beat Ward no easy fight for both of them...

 

Dude, that was 200 years ago, and Barrera was a shell of himself in that fight. And landing Body shots is not the only part of an inside game. There is also defense and head shots at a short distance, as well as effective usage of holding and clinching, and being able to fight off of the ropes.


If you want to see examples of inside fighting, watch Toney in his prime, BHOP, and guys like that. Pac has not exhibited anything like that EVER.

 

you don't understand different forms of fighting. There are many ways to be effective on the inside. Pacquiao shows this with his overwhelming offense. Even against Cotto he showed an effective inside game picking off Cotto's hooks and short jabs with his guard and then turning him and putting him off balance.

But like I said, your understanding of boxing is too one-dimensional.

Pac is a good inside fighter.

Also, if James Toney and BHOP are the barometer for a fighter being able to fight on the inside then 99.9% of fighters can't fight on the inside.

 

Pacquiao had shown some elements of effectiveness on the inside, but it's really not his game. However he is good at doing what is necessary on the inside to get it back to the distance he prefers (mid range). He'll throw those fast stinging flurries, sometimes it may back the opponent up a bit, or Pac will move back or to the side, and then Pac is able to get the distance he likes.

He isn't helpless at close range but he's not exactly someone you'd watch and say "he's good on the inside".

 

Most fighters CANT fight on the inside, at least not effectively. It's really a lost art in boxing these days.

And Cotto's punches were too wide against Pac. Pac is faster and was able to see those punches coming easily. And Cotto himself is not an inside fighter either. He throws good body shots, but his defense is almost non existent. Pac cant fight effectively off the ropes either (why do you think Roach always tells him to get off of the ropes).

Pac has alot of tools, inside fighting is just not one of them. And a Pac fan accusing me of having a one dimensional idea of boxing is like a ***** who is promoting abstinence.
