Great, and or better then they were. Often times a fighter who only fights regionally or worse yet within a single state or two is looked at as being a "protected" fighter... Unwilling to fight out of their comfort zone while simultaneously taking his opponent out of theirs. Sean O' Grady almost exclusively fought out of Oklahoma City, but he was definitely no bum. Looking for more fighters in that mold, and the stories behind them. It's interesting because the likes of Joe Calzaghe did this for well over a decade and only at the very end of his career has his potential greatness been tested. Mikkel Kisser, similarly, is running this risk as well.
Well then there was a ton of US fighters who were mighty good but hardly ever fought outside the States, hell they hardly ever fought outside of Neveda, New Jersey or New York etc.
how about the ultimate stay at home fighter who gets beat but gets the hometown desicion the one the only sven ottke
Jack Dempsey, Rocky Marciano, Jim Jeff, Gene Tunney, Jimmy Braddock(Was the Farr bout in states or London?) Baer? I would add Joe Louis, but something keeps nagging me he fought outside in England, Ezzard Charles?
Farr bout was in New York. Louis/Charles was in New York too. I think your slight doubt maybe comes from where Britain and Europe recognized Savold as World Champion until he lost to Louis in 1951 and Louis' recognition as World champion (For Britain and Europe) was quietly swept under the table.
Chris Eubank was in the game for the money and domestic rivals like Benn and Watson made financial sense and were un avoidable. Toney, Nunn, Jones Jr and so on, just wasnt worth the risk...
