I hate it when Trainers say stuff like "WE are in the best shape of OUR life"

This is going to be a very tough fight for Pavlik all the way to the point in which he stops Martinez in about the 9th round. I wouldnt be shocked to see Pavlik down on the cards by 4 or 5 points at that time. But thats why they fight 12 rounds.

I still say I would much rather see Pavlik fight middleweights or supermiddles at say 164 then fighting Jr Middleweights. I tell you the fight I would really love to see is Pavlik vs Mundine. But because Mundine is only interested in fighting totally outclassed bums in his front yard I dont expect that fight would ever happen.

I always thought Mundine was promised something when he vacated to make way for Kessler. Now the WBA has moved Sturm to "Super Duper Champ"? It seems ANY title is good enough for the Aussie public so perhaps he will finally pick up on his marker and get the plain old "Ordinary Champ" title from the WBA somehow? Nothing these orgs do surprise me anymore. Really, after the special addition "Manny Pac Diamond Belt" what could they possibly do next that would surprise us?

Martinez' style is bad for Pavlik. It is his WEIGHT that is good for them, that's why he was chosen. My God, do you remember Top Rank's matchmaker when they signed Gamboa-Barros? He said Gamboa is fighting some "brawler from Argentina." Do these people ever watch TAPES?

The main thing in this fight is that Pavlik is much bigger and stronger than Martinez, and the question is whether Maravilla can fight as a legit Middleweight, in which case he could give Pavlik's 2nd professional loss. I guess we'll have to wait until Saturday, until then, I wish both guys the best and expect a good fight.

Pavlik should have some trouble with Martinez, but Pavlik can punch.

I picked Martinez in every poll since the fight was announced...
fight is approaching and it looks like my Vcash gonna be on Pavlik.

    Because of the weight.
And maybe also, the Williams -Martinez fight blinded me a bit...

I agree with you in theory, but 160 is such a barren waste land right now that there is literally no one to fight. If I were to place Martinez in the Ring rankings at 160 right now, I would put him at #3; under Williams and above Gevor.

David Lopez and Roman Karmazin are both in the Ring top 10. Seriously, how much chance would either have against Martinez?

At 168 there's Bute, the six guys who are tied up in the tournament, and Stieglitz and Andrade. We can't count Bika because he has an eliminator with Brinkley coming up.

Martinez is riding a big wave of popularity right now. Top Rank and Dibella usually work well together. HBO likes the Pavlik/Martinez fight. So, that's what we get.

I'm yet to make a pick, mainly for the weight and size reason. In Kirk's prediction page I now MUST get back on track and I'm torn whether I should go brave and pick Martinez for a better (or worse) place in the rankings, or go with the favorite and maintain my position. I'll probably wait until the weigh-in is over, but there's no doubt Sergio is a live underdog!

It's funny how Pavlik's camp say "Sure, watch the Hopkins fight, we are ok with that" and then reference the Margarito and Williams losses. One when he was green and had awful training, the other was very close and be had poor training for that too. If you're going to say it's pointless watching the Hopkins fight, surely it's even more pointless studying those two losses Martinez had.

At least the things that gave Pavlik problems against Hopkins, Martinez can do. Pavlik doesn't have the same strengths Williams and Margarito had. Their fluidity bothered Martinez and Pavlik is such a rigid fighter, it makes no sense to reference those fights.

I didn't expect anything more from Loew who is a truly poor trainer, though.

Martinez' style is a tough night for just about anyone right now. He's akward as hell and can throw that damn right 50 times in a row.

Will be a good fight while it last. I like both Martinez and Pavlik, but the power advantage mixed with the size advantage for Pavlik will just be too much for Martinez to overcome.

It has been stated here by several and echoed by Kelly that Sergio fought, and made the same mistakes, against Marg/Pdub. 10 years and the same fighter? Yeah, pretty irrelevant.
