I dunno both brothers have been desposing of every single opponent put infront of them...for god sake Wlad took out austin with one arm. The problem is not the fighters its that people do not watch the fights because they do not know the fights. With HBO and Showtime running the main airing in the US regular people just do not see the Klitschko's, Hattons, Calzaghes, Hopkins, and so on...I showed a few of my friends a couple of years ago one of Wlad's fights and they loved him because of his pure size and strength and they loved how humble he was and how he would crack a few jokes. It is all about the networks like ABC, NBC, CBS, and FOX showings these fights on prime time. Yes it is a huge chance that many do not want to take but it will definitly pay off because boxing is not a fraud sport like that elitex crap with kimbo.
Saw it coming. They did a **** job of promoting the fight. The only times I ever heard about it was on Friday Night Fights a few weeks ago and when it was first announced. Its still gonna be aired on ESPN2 an hour later.
I just dont see Wlad being a household name anytime soon. He's not excting enough in the ring, and is certainly not enertaining enough behind the mic. Thats why I was hoping to see Haye beat Wlad, he has alot of the qualities needed to get average fans attention again. He could be the DLH of the Heavyweight division, he could not only gets boxing fans attention, but also the ladies attention as well. I just hope boxing gets there **** together before it's too late.
Get the laides attention lol I think Wlad already has that. And excitement its Wlads problem it is his competitions and haye got knocked out in the cruiserweight division...he is going to have a hell of a time against Wlad or Vitali. Plus people don't want a guy who talks bs....like tyson did against lewis than after the fight say how him and lewis are actrually best friends and this was all promotional...People want someone who is real who when they say something they do it. Haye is not that guy I can gaurentee you that. Wlad is already huge in NYC, USA with a big fan base all him and his brother need is air time on free television channals not the HBO and Showtime.
I disagree, Wlad is only a household name in Germany and maybe where he currently resides which is California. If I went to the bar tonite and asked 10 guys who the Heavyweight champion is, I would get more people naming UFC fighters like Rampage and Fedor, opposed the right answer, which is Wlad. I dont blame Wlad entirely, boxing is just not as popular as it was in the 90's where you had alot of different characters in the Heavyweight division, as well as more talent than we have today. Fans just want excitement, and their rarely getting it any more. With the 3 biggest household names either retired or washed up, in Mayweather, DLH, RJJ, we are left with very little stars other than maybe Pac and Mosley.
Yeah I agree that mayweather, rjj are bigger names in the US no doubt about that but everyone knows the Klitschko cuz of the lewis fight people are alwasy wondering when are they on again and because not that many people get HBO or Showtime they never catch it let alone see the advertisements for the upcoming fights, and Im not just talking about the Klitschko's but all other boxers...either way on how we both agree to disargee one thing we can agree on is that boxing needs to unite instead of these pathetic ABC titles.
No doubt, as a fan I cant even tell you how many different belts their are today. I just remember when it was just the WBC, IBF, and WBA, as well the WBO if you want to throw that in there. All 4 are basically the same now anyways. I guess I'm just waiting for the next Tyson to put the Heavyweight division back in the spotlight again, becuase it's downright terrible right now, not only in talent, but also in excitement. I dont blame people for not watching it, I sometimes find myself disgusted with it at times.
espn had no choice there was a conflict with the german tv..and its getting replayed on ESPN2 at 7 so its not so bad
That might be wishfull thinking about Haye if he were to win. With that British accent of his,it would be a big hurdle to overcome to become popular in the states.Lewis had the same problem when he was champ.Americans want someone they can identify with and Areola seems to be only heavyweight with that potential right now as far as star quality.
Thats partially true, but Lewis wasn't exactly good behind a mic like Haye is. I remember him trying to rap after his win over Vitali, it went something like this "Noone test, Lennox Lewis is the best, I will lay them all to rest". Plus all the gay comercials he did didn't help americans opinions of him either, thought with wins over the likes of Holyfield and Tyson, people had no choice, but to give Lewis his props.
ESPN drops the ball even worse. However, I am pretty happy with the later starting time because I have to coach and run a wrestling tournament that day. They are also airing it on ESPN 2 at 7:00 PM.
I still see it on my tv scheduel, it 6 days in advance on the TV, were did you read it was going to be on espn classic, this does not sound right
