also - as u said, u go straight back more than u need to, rather than to the side , or back and then to the side, to evade, giving the impression often that he s backing u up . when he s not. it ll also give u angles to counter to that long body of his too . things like that i think gave him the slight edge to the judges- but u clearly landed some bombs on him in the 3rd- that overhand right was great.
ABOV Hoorn. Thanks for the pointers mate. I improved heaps in sparring already thanks to what I've learned Saturday, I hope it shows in my next fight :good
people have mentioned you went straight back so try to go back n angles, i think you should try holding your ground your short at the weight, so stand your ground if your opponent rushes you so you an work in close where his reach is a disadvantage, if you know whta i mean, your composure impressed me as you werent fased at an attack. also you went in range landed shots then went straight out of range again, as your the shorter fighter you should try to land your shots then pivot round to change angle and throw a new combo. There you can stay midrange which tires out opponents and negates reach but you need excellant stamina also use your strength abit on the inside instead of holding push them back make room and punch asyour shorter also a bt more head movement bobbing and weaving to get close ala Frazier also when you punch bring your hands back to your guard as afew times you left your hands out however it was a good fight but i felt your opponent nicked it as at the start he landed those combos that got lots of points, but you applied the pressure through out so it could have went eithe way, old scring you ould have won fighters yo should watch IMO Frazier Duran Hagler Pryor
How tall are you RDJ? I'm not sure you can say he's short for the weight. He looks about normal - just the other guy is a skinny **** of freakish height.
Yeah i think RDJ seems to be at relatively normal height (like 5'10) but the other guy looked like he was 6'3 or something.
I'm just under 5'9", not short at all for light welter as far as I know. I don't want to fight like Joe Frazier either, I kinda like my style. Sure it needs lots of work and I should have been more aggressive but I prefer to learn a technical boxer style.
sorry maybe your not that small but my comments work against tall fighters but some are still relevant
Don't get me wrong mate, your comments were valid if all my opponents were to be his size. Thank god they're not, because I really hate fighting like Tyson or Frazier. I do need more head movement in the next fight though, I slip and duck much more in sparring it just did not happen in the ring because I was stiff like a robot in the beginning of the fight. Holding my ground, valid criticism as well. Truth to be told, I only realized after the match that I could have done that, and even more so after seeing the video. I was the stronger man, but I had way too much respect for his power. I'm not a come forward all the time fighter though, sometimes I like to move backwards.
yeh, veryone is stiff in a fight ive said before in sparring i fight like sweet pea moving and slipping but in a fight im more gatti to get up close you dont need to be like tyson or fraier watch niccolino locche hes a master at it or willie pep Holding your ground would have made a hell of a difference as he would have walked onto shots of yours also as for respecting power the first time with little gloves hurts movements good but use angles as you move back but dont go to far back stay within half a step so you can move in and punch and then kep range like sweet pea
Perhaps, but perhaps he would have stayed on the outside. Moving backwards made him come forward, a sudden step forward put me in range and made him walk into a punch as well. Still, I should be able to do either. It should be my choice and not his though, backing up is fine unless he's forcing me to.
That was a very good first fight. The movement was good and the comments about pivoting and moving sideways are all very relevant points. I noticed one aspect that i would work on, and that is the way you deliver your right hand.If you drop your weight onto your rear foot then you could drive your hip into that punch, and not only will it increase the power of that shot, it will stop you tipping to your left with your head when you transfer your weight from the right to left correctly. Develop that technique and you will keep the hounds at bay.Fighters wont be so keen to come charging onto one of those little bombs when you deliver it well.:bbb To me the first few fights show me if a fighter has a heart to work with. You have displayed that you have the necessary internal attributes going by how you went about your business . You didn't run. You tried boxing,so you showed intelligence. There were no losers in that fight you posted. A pacey entertaining fight, especially for a first up effort. Well done.:thumbsup
rdj,do you have trouble slipping punches !!because although you had your knees relaxed ,your back was quite stiff. it was a good fight and you displayed intestinal fortitude as barry McGuigan says.well done:good
Thanks mate, I appreciate it :good Normally I slip quite a lot, but in the fight I completely abandoned it. Only near the end of round three you begin to see a little bit of upper body movement.
