i heard the semi-finals and final of the super six tourney is gonna be on terestrial or what you yanks call regular, network tv in the states this would be great as IMO the biggest problem in the sport is the lack of "free" tv coverage, although they're getting more money now fighters that should be household names are not even household names in their own kitcken and fighting in obscurity, none of the greats would've been as famous as they were in todays climate of no regular tv coverage if this is true then this tourney is even bigger and more important, the winner and the four semi-finalists are gonna be massive names at the end.
i'm not sure, but showtime recently had some sort of merger so who knows i just heard it on the grapevine
PLEASE BE TRUE. CBS showing commercials for these fights will bring in a lot of fans who never would've known about it because they dont get Showtime. 99.99999% of households get CBS and these being primetime events are what boxing needs.
If CBS shows the finals, and it does well in the ratings, somebody may be willing to put up the money for a better version of a contender type show.
CBS showed the Kimbo Slice show known as EliteXC, which was on Showtime, for the most part. If they believe it can generate ratings, it could very well end up on network television. I try not to get my hopes on these things, because it's bandied about semi-frequently and never comes to fruition.
Oscar de la Hoya's early career exposure on NBC is one of the contributing reasons for his seemingly preternatural celebrity vis-a-vis the rest of the sport.
Not getting too worked up, I could see them trying this since pitching a tournament "unique in boxing history" (6 guy round robin) is a pretty good hook. If the round robin goes well on Showtime, this doesn't sound out of the question. Anyone know if they plan to put 2 fights on the same card? 2 of the U.S. based fighters on the same bill makes decent sense. I've seen nothing to this effect.
