Hope someone can help me out here my good friend is looking for a new trainer his been a pro for 2 years his 7-1 (4) at the moment and is looking for a good trainer to help him progress. We would be grateful for any suggestions
You got plenty to choose from.. Tony Sims Jimmy Tibbs Don Charles then you could look at up and coming trainers like Ben Doughty Tunde Ajayi Really depends on style and a lot of the top guys have a fair few to train so struggle to give lesser known fighters the time needed. You gotta look at good quality work with a guy who can suit your fighters style plus access to good sparring on regular basis.
Tibbs had Benn and loves combinations and power!, Charles could as well i'd suspect through his work with Chisora. I said it other day lot of these Tyson wannabe stylists don't know the keys to Tyson's success. They think a pair of black shorts and short cut boots and throwing hooks makes them the New Tyson. Jab (Few variations) Head-Movement (Dipping/Slipping) Combinations (HeadtoBody/BodytoHead)
yeah true, explain the jab thing...do you train fighters. One thing, alot of fighters move there head to the side....then nothing, what Tyson did was move his head to the side the unleash his punches....rarely did he just move his head and not throw.
Nah i don't train fighters, have done a bit of padwork for a kid who was being bullied and would like to go into coaching boxing. The jab has so many variations, people think it's just a jab and that's it but you've got so many ways of using it.. -Normal Full Length Jab (Maintaining range, Working punches off of it) -Up Jab (Shocker of a punch, Real Impact) -Flick Jab (a irritant for the opponent, creates openings and breaks concentration of opponent) -Stick (Johnny Nelson used it to great affect, Blinds the opponent) -Jab+Hook (Hooking off the jab, really shocking punch. Not taught enough IMO) Can mix it up head to body, double it, treble it. You spot on about Tyson and head movement, for last couple of years i've started to watch fighters who can punch on the move. A lot of fighter especially British struggle to punch whilst on move or feet not set to canvas. Tyson had the ability to punch whilst moving feet which is something i'd like to see more fighters do.
Gotta be tko in canning town! Full time pro gym. Great sparring with the likes of Kevin Mitchell. Spencer fearon has a good little stable of fighters at his gym called the real fight club in shoredich. The problem with the real fight club is that it doubles up as a White colar gym so if your mate wants to train with other pros, then he needs to get down there during the weekday otherwise he will be unwittingly surrounded by a load of fat middle-aged men with far too much money to spend on personal trainers
