http://sports.espn.go.com/new-york/mlb/news/story?id=5266115 It got a 3.9 rating on HBO, or 1.9 million households - the best rating of the year so far. We don't get info on ratings often, but it's certainly a good sign, and demonstrates two points: 1) The setting at Yankee stadium almost certainly played a big part in the overall interest in this fight. Could HBO use this to push more fights to similar venues? 2) Cotto is still one of the biggest draws in boxing.
Good ****. Looks like Cotto is moving up as far as fan popularity goes. Last time he faced such an overmatched opponent on HBO it was Alfonso Gmez and that earned HBO horrendous ratings.
good for cotto hes one of my favourite fighters but i dont get what the venue had to do with the television numbers could someone please explain
Just having the fight there produced more general interest and attention in the media and with fans. If Cotto-Foreman was held at Boardwalk Hall, or even MSG, I doubt it does as well in TV viewership. Cotto-Clottey last summer at MSG didn't do anywhere near as well in ratings iirc.
no way.....for viewers, all we care its who its fighting, since all we see its the fighters and the ring.....we saldomly get a view of the venue,so we dont care...numbers were good for many other reasons...cotto still gets attention, for some because he is a good fighter, for others, because they wanted to see how better or worse he got, because of the beatings and new trainer.HBO was selling the fight, not so much with cotto, but with yuri, saying he is almost a saint(P.R people, what can you do)..so sorry venue didnt matter..at least not this time.
I think it was mainly done for the live gate but it probably drew more folks from the margins. This is the kind of stuff marketing people sit up nights and worry about.
No way was it 30. I was there and half the stadium was blocked off and didn't have tix sold for it. I think they announced it at 18.
