He wants a top tier guy but as fights were announced Kelly's name wasn't in the mix. update: "Seen" that Ward says Kelly is a possibility. "Seen" that Goosen is making the case for this fight and dismissing the media writing Kelly off after losses to 'only' Martinez and Hopkins. They are in talks but nothing close according to Goosen
Bute facing a guy he can take on while still eating through a straw. Froch not taking any possible disruptions before Bute and Kessler fights. Abraham, keeping the belt warm until Sourland decides Kessler needs it. Andre Dirrell is booked. Chavez Jr. will be looking for a tuneup while Martinez's knee heals.
Top Rank was negotiating with Sauerland in regards to a dance with Kessler, but they were pretty far apart, so that's not going to happen. His name was thrown around for Froch, but obviously having the stretch of fights Froch has had and with a big fight on deck he wasn't going to go for Kelly. On the lower tier of names, I seem to recall Stevenson and Dirrell made offers that weren't taken. Since Chavez got handled by Martinez, I don't think Ward is really all that interested in a fight with Chavez and obviously Sergio and Ward won't square off. So Kelly's best bet might be Ward if he wanted something soon...which I wouldn't advise.... So, he should probably take a slightly lesser tiered name than going after the big guns, unless he can get Abraham.
Kelly Pavlik needs to back to 160 he lost everythin at 168 he doesnt even seem like he got power anymore
Ward was the only name I could come up with too which is why I was asking to see if I'd overlooked something.
I've heard that, well Stevenson, could still be a possibility but I was skeptical. They could have already taken that fight and turned it down. Still, just doesn't seem to be a lot available and Kelly expected to be back in the ring by December or so.
Could we somehow, by the power of the boxing gods, have Pavlik vs. AA. Make it at 164. Chavez would be a good fight to, and with top rank promoting big bob gets all the money.
Kelly may be forced to take on a guy a little lower level than he hoped at this point from the looks of it.
Because they both seem light handed at 168. I think 164 is the ideal weight for both fighters to be at there best. It wont happen but just sayin. It is boxing
HBO should tell Jason Escalera to go screw and put Pavlik on their show in a couple of weeks opposite La Bomba Rodriguez.
Personally I'd like to see Pavlik fight Brian Magee. Magee is a solid gate keeper who'd give Kelly an all action fight. The other option is Bika, and that could make for an ugly maul.
