No. I'm not saying I want Arum to do it. I just think the sport would be much better off if the matchmaking was better controlled, similar to the UFC. And I'm not a fan of MMA. The UFC puts the best fighters in the ring together frequently. Boxing has a hard time doing that. It would be nice if it wasn't always the case. I do agree with you that the UFC is going to have a lot of problems in the future. However, I don't see a competitor presenting those problems. I see the government stepping in. I'm actually surprised they haven't. Anytime one company has this much control over an industry, everyone starts screaming monopoly. Yet, so far, the UFC has escaped those conversations.
it's not a fact it's your opinion. he weighed in at 145 for his last WW contest. He is on record saying that is where he is most comfortable at. Kelly has had many fight at 168 with success just like PW at 154. even though his weight division is one below. so jumping up to fight Dawson is very smililar except you don't like Paul and you love Kelly. The only reason we are having an argument about this fight in this thread is because we are arguing with a fans perspective point of view, not with a neutral. -Shadow
I don't hate Paul, and I don't love Pavlik. I like both guys. Anyway, you were trying to say that Paul "deserves" more because he's taking a big risk. I disagree. The split is decided on money-making capacity, and on that count, anything between 50/50 and 55/45 in Pavlik's favor is perfectly fair.
I only used Arum as an example. My point was that just about all of the promoters are major scumbags, and I think that the sport would still have a lot of problems if any one of the major players on the scene were to exercise that level of control. Don't get me wrong. The hypothetical situation you laid out is something that I'd like to see for the sport in a perfect world. I just that boxing is almost impossible to reorganize at this point.
I never said that. I think that if Goosen has the date then Bob has to play fair with the Sponser and License fee Money. If top rank is not going to share the revenue and I'm a promoter and it's my date. well then the show is going on with out you. I never even spoke on the gate.
True. But, the UFC has come a long way too. If they can go from banned human cockfighting to multi-billion dollar industry in 20 years, boxing can re-organize. Boxing just needs some young, entrepreneurial blood at the top of the sport. It may take a one in a million type personality with a boatload of money to make it happen. But, I still hold out hope it can happen. Or at the very least, maybe they can improve the relationships between the promoters. I just don't see that happening either. Although the Super Six Tourney is a great example of what can happen when promoters work together.
This isn't "Paul's Date" unless HBO says it is. HBO can change it at their liking. HBO gave Top Rank the purse in this case, not Goosen. It is Goosen asking Top Rank for more. Which holds more sway?
The 2.5 mil Goossen is asking is really minimum pay for PW in such a fight, about 25-35% of the final purse. IMO, there is no way this fight is not worth at least 7 million. PW, Goosen and Pavlik do want the fight, Top Rank don't.
I wouldn't blame Arum alone... Goosen has as much to do with it as Arum. Goosen is to blame when things fell thru the first time...Goosen thinks his fighter is worth a Gazillion $$$ when his fighter is not the draw and hasn't proven much.
It's Top Rank's purse. And can you show me something concrete that says it is "goosens" and HBO can't yank it?
Dawson says he wants to fight at 168, so in essence KP already fought a better fgihter at a higher weight. He got his ass handed to him, but he had the balls to do it. Maybe PWilly should tell Goosen to give HIS balls back to him.:yep
