Beside, Dirrell may go for the WBC title. I think Ward could go for the same title. His win against Miranda may give him the number one spot. But his promoter may not want him to face Forch or Bute (if they unify) first. Balsay may seem easier to beat. So far, no news about what Balsay thinks of it?
I figured Ward would get a title shot or eliminator by the end of the year. I haven't saw Balzsay fight before, but it should be a Showtime fight and I'll be watching it.
Ward is still a young up and comer. People get so hyped once they see a guy on TV. Goosen is doing the right thing. Even if Ward can beat Froch its not worth it at this point.
Well lets put it this way...If he fights Ward then he may have to fight both back to back. Dirrell is number one, so unless he takes some step aside, or goes after another belt Balzsay will have to fight him by the end of Jan 2010.
It's entirely possible that the mandatory status could get pushed back. Depending on what organization we're talking about, it could be anywhere from 9 months to 2 years to take on your mandatory. It could be possible that Showtime will try to do a double header (Dirrell vs Bika/Ward vs Balszay) with the winners facing off in the main event. You could probably hear the tent pole coming up at Showtime at the opportunity of an All American SMW title rivalry.
Yeah that isnt going to happen. Ward and Dirrell will not be fighting one another for at least 4 to 5 years. You know Im not sure if your European or not if you are you would have been about the 10th one that I have heard make that comment about Dirrell and Ward fighting each other..I wonder why its so important to fans in Europe that Ward and Dirrell fight each other so soon.:huh
So I've been refered to as European, Mexican, Puerto Rican and Irish all on one board. I truly am a man of all cultures. And people want to see this fight because it's a good fight. I know...novel concept.
Yeah maybe, but why would they fight before they both have titles??? What would be the point in fighting what looks like will be you co-star in the first act??? As I said I think its more because some would really like to see one of them out of the way...
You just finished saying that Dirrell is the mandatory. Correct? So if Ward and Balszay fight, the set up is obviously there. Ward would probably beat Balszay (although I think Balszay is underrated in the grand scheme of things at SMW) which means he vs Dirrell is a logical conclusion. Throw in the fact that the belt would be on the line, you'd have two American fighters with fan friendly styles in Ward and Dirrell and where exactly am I wrong? You really think Showtime would say "Wow it's too soon for this sort of fight!" Chances are Showtime would jump all over this and eat it up with a spoon. At this point the market for Dirrell vs Ward is beginning to simmer. If Ward can grab one of the big boy belts and if Dirrell can beat a tough gamey experienced fighter like say Jermain Taylor or Carl Froch, you have built the story to the point where fans will want the first strike. And I highly doubt anyone wants to see anyone "out of the way" in the hottest division in boxing. Froch and Bute are talking unification, Andrade is looming in the background, Balszay is showing gusto by looking for a big fight against a fighter like Ward. Jermain Taylor isn't a foot note yet...this is a division with too many good fights to waste any energy about wishing someone away. Seriously you're letting your flag get in the way of common sense on this.
Makes me think about Sturm and Abraham. Here is the difference between american fighters and german. If both Dirrell and Ward have titles they will fight. I see some sloppy fighting from Dirrell at times so I am not as high on him. Ward will have a title soon enough.
And here's another difference: Ward and Direll are no household-names in their to US TV viewers whereas Abraham and Sturm are in Germany. Plus, both are about the only German world class fighters... Problem is that both want a share of about $4 million each but everyone involved says that this would end up +/- 0 for the promotions AND, what is a big problem to me and other boxing fans, the promotions are afraid to let their best fighter lose a world title belt to its rival...
That would a smart move, Balzsay from a styles viewpoint is his best chance to pick up a belt. Karoly is a good fighter and all, but his footwork is best described as static. A good mover like Ward is going to take advantage of that I expect.
