GP is great...for triggering emotional responses...but if you want to see Fighters best of, go elsewhere. He's production values first, content second. He'll admit it himself.

damn, cant people just watch something and appreciate what their watching? lol...

a guy makes a thread about GP's highlights, and it turns into his **** being overrated.

Can anything be more typical on a boxing forum

Exactly what I said, when I type in Chavez highlight, I wanna see him throwin 4 punch combination's...not a 5 second close up of his face with Goo Goo Dolls in the background. He's good for fight highlights, not fighter highlights.

Addie and San Rafael are welcome to their opinions, and for my part there have been a few occasions when I thought there should be a bit more substance to some of the footage Gorilla used when doing a personal tribute, but I have a ton of respect for his work. He's by far the best out there, and trust me making those videos is a hell of a lot harder than it looks. (Provided you're not a media student. ;) )

In terms of using audio with his work, telling a story, and throwing you right into the middle of a fight and getting your blood pumping about it, Gorilla is second to none. (Or at least no one I've seen.)

Not quite. You make it sound like it's randomly jumbled stuff. I think for the most part you don't understand the intricacies and details to why a certain clip is here and why the whole work starts and ends the way it does. For example, there are life stages in Tyson's highlight video. At a point he starts from the end, almost broken down fighter. Then he goes to Kid Dynamite, and goes into the heart and soul of what started for Tyson... his mentor Cus D'mato. The rest is pretty chronological, but I do feel it's more purposeful than you think.

Dude, I've gotten into editing. I've watched tons of fan-made edited videos. I've studied what the process takes, different styles, and understandings of it all. Don't tell me I don't know what I'm talking about.

It doesn't matter if he's repackaging Pre-Edited Material. He's making a MV from footage. There's always a source that you have to refer to when editing footage unless you film it yourself.

It's not that GP is concept-oriented or does with character studies/depth much, but it's not just random jumbled editing. His story-telling is sometimes better than his technical editing. In my view.

What HBO does? Look. I have most of the 24/7's, I've seen most of them. They are 30 minute segment shows. He has to edit the footage. That's what editing is. He doesn't deal with filming. Knowing how to beat-edit accurately, and make a cut that's seamless is exactly what editing is. So maybe it's not intricate stuff but he's an apt editor. His editing doesn't suffer if he's filming behind a camera. Maybe you're main point is that editing is easy...

This is fair. And what makes it far better work and more entertaining work than with a 10 second non-edit clip of a fighter fighting. This is what makes it editing. It's not like your missing much action is his fight highlights anyway.

Thank you. People are acting like he jumbles clips. His story-telling is top notch.

No arguments necessary. His Gatti video is beautiful and serves it purpose, my only point was that if you want to see to a fighter strengths (and that's why I type in "Barrera highlight"), just go elsewhere. He's about production values, and that's why he uses HBO, HD footage exclusively. No criticism, it's brilliant. As long as you realize what he's doing.

It's a long video. And if this does alter your view, it's important to note that you'll get more story-telling within a tribute than say a fight highlight.

As I say, I've been a media student for 5 years, made a ton of short films. It would not be hard work for me to download Facing Ali and applying a track by Explosions in the sky. I'm a purist, I appreciate the fine elements to this game. Chavez's head movement, his combination punching, you'll see what I mean when it's finished. It didn't take talent to make my highlight, it was uploaded purely so people could go, "Ahhh...now I get it".

GP is brilliant...at what he does.

For good examples of great editors that I know check this out. Cynthia is probably better than GP on a technical and emotional level I think. Best Cotto video ever.
