He's fighting an American at home. Ward has also been allowed in the past to headbutt, hold and generally just spoil at every opportunity.

Another big disadvantage is that he is russian, and anti russian sentiment is running high in USA as always, especially up to presidential election.

This is in part is down to the biased media, and fear that russian are taking over "their" sport. Which they are. But is not their "sport" , it's everyone s sport.

Kovalev needs to do creed on ward to win and if he doesn't he will be robbed blind of his belts and sent back to Moscow.

Only saving grace in all this, is that ward posses a biscuit chin. Let's hope it crumbles.

Outside of poisoning Kovalev, I don't beleve they are really going to be able to find a way to award a twitching, unconscious Ward this fight.

    Well said.

It's no more than bull**** hedging, anyway.

Although we've already seen a Russian lose by UD in the US while it should have been a KO win, I do believe this fight is too high profile to rob Kovalev from a legit win in any way.

Got a sneaking suspicion that op is preparing a line of retreat.

    That's the not-so-sneaking suspicion I have.

A robbery is a robbery whoever you're rooting for. So what is wrong with predicting it?

If it's a close decision or a borderline "robbery", I'm more inclined to believe the judges would lean the other way. The powers that be, HBO and the like, would surely prefer the more active fighter with the more appealing style, who's less fussy and requires less demanding purses.

Just to be clear, if he's right and Kovalev really gets robbed, then do you see that as "sour grapes" or "a preemptive excuse", or do you the see that as "Kovalev got robbed" like other unbiased media and fans?
That's what I mean with "a robbery is a robbery". If it isn't then everybody sees that too.

There's not close to as many "robberies" in all of boxing to really worry bout it

I bet if we went and looked at the old robbery bs thread at least 65/75% can't even be considered robberies. ****, I read ****ing weekly about this robbery or that robbery. Come to find out, the fact is most of them were very close fights.

Just quickl, when were the last 2 high prifile robberies ???

I, of course, wish for an accurate score to be given in this affair. I am also a big fan of Kovalev and if he is the more deserving of the two in the upcoming contest, that is not an horrible nor inconceivable result.

That said, I also want either man's victory to be unsullied by poor losers looking for shelter.

There are many robberies, almost every week, and some are really blatant.
They often happen when a prospect gets exposed but can keep it somewhat close, but in no way possible to legitimately score it for him. (ea clearly losing 5 rounds in a 10 round fight + knockdown, with the other 5 very close still scored for the prospect)
Or even something really blatant like Browne vs that Bosnian dude recently.
Yes, that's what I said too... too high profile in my idea, and the backlash from Bladley vs Pac hasn't gone away yet.

If Ward even wins a close fight you can bet that ALOT of fans on here that support Kovalev will call it a robbery and never give Ward the respect he will have earned. The slo motion threads, Kovalev was robbed, and Kovalev was never good threads will be out in force.

That goes both ways. That's why I hope we'll see a no nonsense clear result in this one, without any controversy.

Would be a lot easier to rob the guy lying unconscious after the first jab
