YEP. Very poor for the trainer to have you sparring 3rd time out.

You gotta go back whether you plan to stay or not. For yourself mainly. It'll kill your confidence if you don't. Also, if the other guy was trying to bomb you out then maybe you should grab a bat and have a word with his kneecaps outside? Or at least let him know he's a ****. I've blasted out a newb after torturing him for a round, but only because he talked **** on me first ;p Stick with it 2 months and soon enough you'll get him back.

It could have been an accident though. Or you might have no cheen. Regardless, 4 months vs no experience is no big deal unless the other guy can't control himself or is a dick. You quit now, fine, but you haven't really given yourself a chance yet.

    2 possibilities:
1 - you somehow rubbed the coach the wrong way, he has 0 respect for you and need to gain his respect OR
2 - other posters are correct - he's a worthless piece of **** and you need to find another gym cuz you don't need to waste your time earning his respect cuz he's an ******* and you can't change that

**** your coach. Keep at it just to rub it in his face when you improve.

Both your trainer and the other boxer are dicks lol...

i have been boxing close to 1.5 years now, if i sparred someone with 3 lessons, which is ridiculously little for a sport like boxing, i would go 20% at max.

Your trainer doesn't know hit ****, and it's sad that many trainers don't know their **** and pass down the wrong skillset and mentality to their boxers.

The other dude was a total douche too, he should have controlled his power..

Its better to avoid bad trainers than to push through. It'll effect your confidence.

You can still find something else or someone else better.

The trainer treated you really disrespectfully that is the first thing.

You should never ever give in and you should persevere, nothing ever comes in life easily.

Its not the knockbacks that define you, its how you react to them that counts in life. Everyone has knockbacks in life.

I would speak to the trainer and say that you thought he didnt deal with it well and that you want to continue and to learn more and train more.
    See what he says.

It seems your trainer didn't have your welfare as priority.

As a novice, you should be learning the punch mechanics not sparring.

    Did you wear a headgear?

I would find a different trainer that guy doesn't know **** if he made you spar after 3 sessions. I first sparred after 2 months and even then i got my ass handed to me. Keep your head high and don't worry it wasn't your fault.

I have yet to fight in a competition setting and I hated my trainer because he's an *******, but he wasn't a malicious *******. It wasn't until like my 15-20th day that he let me do controlled sparring (drills). I'd do jab sparring with more experienced fighters. I still got my ass kicked and thought I broke my nose once, but it was nice knowing that I wasn't being fed to dogs without good reason. He weened me into the ring - and that's the way it should be.

Anybody that says - "just get in there" is a ****ing idiot. Boxing is real and getting punched ****ing hurts.

There's a few things you can do:

    1) See if you can get your money back. If you can, do it and seek a new trainer.
    2) If you can't get a refund, then stick out the last 7 sessions. Learn as much as you can because, God damned, you paid for it.
    3) Remember, even if the trainer tries to humiliate you, who cares? He's a ****ing grown adult acting like a child. Trust me, he's got a lonely, sad life if he needs to prey on and humiliate younger folk to boost his own ego/self confidence.
    4) YOU DON'T HAVE TO SPAR IF YOU DON'T WANT TO. I'd be VERY surprised if other fighters in the gym don't take a liking to your resilience. Don't be afraid to go back to the gym and, if the trainer requests you to spar, reject his request. You don't have to spar. Other fighters (the better fighters/more experienced ones at the gym) will see this and possibly take you under their wing. I'm dead serious. Happened to me
    5) Learn as much as you can and focus most on footwork. Learn from other fighters, not just your mindless **** of a trainer.

Get the refund if you can. If you can't, finish up the sessions and learn as much as you can. Remember, EVERY GREAT FIGHTER (all of 'em), have tasted the canvas at some point in their career. And 95% of the great fighters hit the canvas.... at the BEGINNING of their career. Learning to walk/skip/run/jump is an error filled process and it is only through making mistakes that you learn.

Don't let some ignorant, miserable old **** sway you from something you love. Remember, you don't take to every teacher in middle school / high school / college. But every so often you find a teacher/professor that you really enjoy because they challenge you. Find that trainer. They're out there, trust me.

im sorry to hear about that.
you had no business sparring so soon.

i will tell you a true story which may make you feel better:

One of my boxing coaches was heavily into muay thai. but when he was knew to the sport, he went to a gym and was sparring with the instructor.
my coach was maybe 16 at the time and the coach was a fully grown man.

as they started sparring, the coach landed a massive roundhouse kick to his head. they continued sparring like nothing had happened. at the end of the session he noticed half his face had a blood clot- very bruised and swollen.
my coach was terrified of going home as his parent wont ever let him train again.
he was just a novice sparring and the instructor took liberties- maybe due to racial reasons.

he never went back to that gym for awhile. he trained with masters from other gyms. fast forward a few years and my coach went back to the same gym where that incident took place. again, he was matched with the same instructor but this time the sparring had to be stopped cos my coach winded the instructor twice with knees, embarassing him infront of his students.

my advice, dont quit. keep learning and one day go back and show em! i got mad just reading that!
