    Folks,

I have my tape of "Marciano-Walcott 2" rolling from '53.......... LOOK! After further review, Joe Walcott was in FINE shape for a 39 year old man fighting for the world title against a peak Rocky Marciano....

I have all the prefight hype leading up to the fight and, without a doubt, BOTH men were in terrific shape going into the rematch... Joe and Rocky were ripped and buffed in a natural sense.......... Awesome.......

In my opinion, Joe Walcott was indeed clipped by a quick and solid uppercut by Marciano in the opening stanza.. NO DOUBT the shot landed... Walcott was dropped on his ass but, not really out of it...... Joe was stunned, but NOT KO'D!! J.W. simply blew the count..... PLUS! The goddamn ref's count seemed awfully quick, too.......

A terrible blunder on Walcott's part.... He SHOULD'VE gotten his ass off the floor in a much more aggessive manner than the casual manner in which he did................. Walcott was too lax in the fight of 1953........

    MR.BILL:bbb:shock:

    NOTE:

Walcott EASILY could have carried on if the ref's count was a wee bit slower....... Walcott looked confused and bummed when the fight was waived...... He was there to fight..........

He mistimed the count. Maybe subconsciously he didn't want it anymore.

The count was not fast, the ref was counted on the time keeper.

Walcott made the mistake of looking at his corner for aide instead of keeping an eye on the ref and his count.......... BUT!!! Walcott was NOT legitimately KO'd by Marciano in my book........... Walcott was stunned, but, he could've fought on.......... He was not parked............

Walcott didn't start to rise until after the count of 9. He threw that fight. The money was in the bank. He was happy to retire. The knockdown was real, though.

YES! The droppage was real, but, the KO was bogus....... Walcott made a **** effort of rising......... The crowd MUST have been pissed back in '53......

Marciano was NOT at fault, much like how Ali was NOT at fault for Liston's **** game played up in Maine later in '65........ Or Dokes getting the WBA title by a FRIENDLY ref named Joey Curtis against Mike Weaver in 1982........ ALL stinky affairs............

Love to see you motivate your ass off the canvas after 20 plus years of fighting and being nailed by Marciano at 40 years old. :-(

    Russ,

I'm age 43 and in NOWHERE near the shape that Walcott was in at age 39 back in '53........ I just did all the prelude crapola prior to my review tonight........ Walcott was ripped and buffed at a rock solid 195 + or - pounds for the rematch............... Walcott was NO "Buster Douglas" coming into his rematch fight with Marciano....... Not at all....... I TRULY believe that Walcott came to win.... The opening round knockdown was bad for Walcott, but, he made a **** poor effort in getting to his feet in that bout............. Sure, okay, perhaps his purse of $250,000 G's was part of the problem........? 250 G's is / was good retirement $$$ back in 1953....

Another funny thing is that Walcott didn't even start stomping around the ring until after the fans started booing. His acting was terrible. Reminds me of Clifford Ethienne's dive against Mike Tyson.

I think it was a conscious decision by Walcott not to get up. He was looking at the ref. Boxing is full of fighters who get up at 11, but could have made it to their feet by 8 or 9.

wallcot was there to fight but he got hit hard. he looked the same on the floor against louis. the reff was excited - he thought it was all about him the way the guy was waving those arms but the count was legitimate. walcott was out of it.
