Don't have the exact source at the moment but Walcott claimed in an interview after the fact that he was not completely together after the punch and blanked out during the count. He said that never happened to him before and saw it as a sign to retire.

My thing is this, if Joe Wally wanted out in '53, why the hell didn't he go down and lay down on his back looking up to the stars as if he were in dreamland? That would've played out better on film......... The fact that he was sitting upright on his ass holding the rope with his right glove shows me his senses were there during the ref's quick count...... Pisses me off when this **** starts..........

    NOTE:

Two heavyweight title fights that I saw live that bothered me and still bothers me today is "Dokes-Weaver 1" from 1982, and Bowe-Dokes" from 1993........

"Holmes-Frazier" of 1983 didn't surprise me when I saw the fight on the tube back home in Los Angeles..... Holmes was too awesome for Marvy Frazier in '83.......

OH! "Tyson-Spinks" and "Tyson-Carl Williams" were either stinkbombs or bogus altogether....... Major letdowns there......... Again, "Tyson-McNeeley" and "Tyson-Seldon" were just god awful...........

    POINT BEING:

Whenever the great Larry Holmes was involved in some stinker as champion, at least he gave us some rds to view and get a beer or two down our throats..... My least favorite 'Holmes' title fights are versus "Frank and Rodriguez" in 1983......

Very true. But I think he could have gotten up. The way he smoothly took out his mouthpiece and lay there to be counted out looks very suspicious. Plus, he was way too cool about things after the fight.

Talk about a fix or throwing a fight by going in the tank, just review the 1990 fight between Foreman and Terry Armstrong from London, England.... Armstrong goes out like a light from single right hand to the forehead by Foreman... Yeah, Foreman landed the shot, but it didn't seem like the type of right hand that Foreman would park his man like a Cadillac..... I think Terry Armstrong pulled a tank job in London.......

I was talking about the Tyson/Clifford Ethienne match, not the Walcott/Marciano rematch.
