ok, define 'smart training'. How the **** does this thread "prove" that taping a glove to a bamboo stick and using it to simulate strikes is bad? because a few pussies think it's too hardcore? And where did I say, or even imply, I thought I was a bad-ass? All I said was that I was glad it happened because enduring pain builds fortitude. If you can show me a quote where I imply that, then talk ****. The same **** could happen getting punched, so I don't know why you specified using bamboo, as if it's some bad thing....you're obviously a *****
Training that helps you improve with minimal risk of getting injured. Your boxing trainer cut your head open with a piece of bamboo... think about it. Hardcore? No. Stupid? Yes. Please explain how attacking you with bamboo sticks is more effective than sparring. "I got a cut and it feels good" Explain what you meant by this. To me it sounds like "I got a cut, so now I'm one of the cool, badass guys and it feels good". Getting a cut from being punched, yeah ok that wouldn't be a shock, but increasing the obvious risk of getting cut by using bamboo (which to be honest has no real advantage and no relevance to boxing) is kinda dumb. Yeah, ok  Maybe I could get a friend to come use his nunchucks on you next time :rofl
exactly, but what if there is a better training method with higher risk of injury? should it be discarded? ok....and he's given me a bloody nose before with a punch. this is boxing, **** happens. it's not like he said to stand up against a wall and take 5 whacks. nothing is better than sparring overall, but this is a specific drill aimed at honing defensive techniques such as slipping, ducking and creating angles with footwork. plus, being that it is a bamboo stick, one is much more likely to work. I never said it was better than sparring anyway..... no, it feels good having the experience because it's just another building block. basically, I just like the punishment, because it benefits me. I don't think myself any "tougher" than I was the day I got into boxing....I'm just more used to punishment...toughness is just a perception, atleast in the way you're using it. this drill is good because one will improve their defense more. If he ever does it again with me, you better believe I'll dodge every one of those shots, because I don't want to get cut. and like I said before, it could easily happen in a fight, given your opponent is going all out, so one mistake and you'll probably be ****ed up....so instead of always doing it with pads where there's no pressure and then getting in the ring where there is, it simulates it better.
Again, explain how someone trying to poke you with bamboo is better than a boxer standing there trying to punch you. A bloody nose is expected, getting cut with bamboo isn't. So the guy actually tries to full on smack you in the face with bamboo sticks? Why not just punch you, you know with his fist? True. So one mistake and you could get cut, lose an eye, get your face sliced open and you don't see the problem? I'm just trying to understand how this is effective training for a boxer.
I was comparing the bamboo drill to sparring. I was speaking on its benefit, in regards to itself. I think you are misinterpreting. He taped a glove to the top of a bamboo stick, he didn't use the stick by itself. This was the first time we've ever done this...everything else was pads and sparring mostly. yeah, it's risky, I know.
