You'd be surprised at how little some GPs know, hell it's not a scare story, GPs prescribed **** to both my cousin and a friend and it ****ed them, not a scare story, just a story as to what happenned. Whether or not he should bother going back to the GP who prescribed him that stuff depends on how good that GP is (I only know one good GP personally, i'd trust with that sort of decision, some nurses know more than GPs in certain areas). At the end of the day he needs to trust his own judgement about whether or not he'll be able to focus in school without the medication, if he finds he doesn't need it, and school is going well, there's no need to take it.

OOOOOOOOOO man let me get started! I think I have adhd. Lots of people have told me that everyone has it but some have it worse than others. I refuse to get medication for it by my doctor, but I do get it illegally and can almost get any type of perscribed pill. I do Take concerta and a few other pills sometimes depending on my mood and what i want to do. I have been getting concerta from one of my friends for a couple months and I do notice a difference in my concentration and It helps me stay focused.

Mate i wouldnt be surprised i work with gps every day , there are bad decisions that are made every day by people in all sorts of job , were only human. If your looking for the perfect gp youll be looking along time however not knowing anything about medicine he would be better seeing his doctor and getting 2 3 or even 4 other oppinions. Also i dont know about the states but a doctor here in the uk cant perscribe any adhd or add drugs without the patient being consulted by a specialist and going through a screening program, so theres less risk here i guess. I agree things can go wrong however going back to your doctor , maybe seeing more than one and explaining the situation fully and what you want out of the medication would still be best. He might just be giving you the cheapest course of drugs which often happens to save money but if you explain the situation he may give you something that wont sap your energy so much. Good luck anyways:good
