1- Fights an up and coming superstar and future p4p king (Roy Jones Jr.). 2- Fights a top p4p fighter and boxing superstar in Felix Trinidad even tho most people thought he would lose that fight. 3- Fights a young undefeated contender in Jermain Taylor (Twice). 4- Moves up 2 weight classes to fight the undisputed light heavyweight champion (Antonio Tarver). 5- Fight another top p4p fighter that everyone was avoiding (Winky Wright). 6- Takes on the undisputed 168lbs king and top p4p fighter (Joe Calzaghe). 7- And now he will be fighting 160lbs king Kelly Pavlik. Pavlik, Calzaghe, Wright, Tarver, Taylor (x2) in his last 6 fights! Not many fighters have that kind of resume.
Another thing about Hopkins is that even when he was considered #1 p4p he would still call out any fighter which is rare for someone in that situation.
I agree. If he beats pavlik and Jones loses to Calzaghe, I think Bernard surpasses Jones on the ATG list. Hopkins has the kind of longevity that you just don't see in boxing. The fact that he's fighting these younger, elite fighters and being highly competitive is simply amazing.
OK I wanted to ask this question but I dont think it needs to be a thread> What is Bernars best win? IMO its Twinky Wright
I actually think Tarver was his best win. He jumped up 2 weight classes and dominated "The man" at 175...At 41 years of age! That gets my vote
Massive respect to Hopkins. Definite atg. Also should be commended for turning his life around-not easy to come out of prison and achieve what he has. Role model for younger boxers for the dedication he shows in keeping himself so competitive for so long.
