My opinion is that Kessler won a clear but close decision.

He never done anything that Froch couldn't cope with, but Froch seemed to forget to work in a lot of rounds.

I think with higher work rate Froch would have won, but then maybe Kessler stopped that through his own performance.

Rob, The scores were unfair but the result wasn't.

I was gutted wtahcing the final round hoping for the KO and Kessler winning it.

It's a shame Graham isn't more known by the general boxing public.

He's a blend of good writer, fair-minded conscientious observer (he may cover a slightly disproportionate amount of British fighters but is not prejudiced for them), and knowledgeable boxing fan/pundit.

I'd much rather have him in Dan Rafael's position.

    http://www.guardian.co.uk/sport/blog/2010/apr/26/carl-froch-scoring-system-kevin-mitchell

Interesting article complaining about the lack on even rounds.

And, as befits the man who wrote the sensationalistic, muck-raking 'War, Baby' comes this prime piece of idiocy:

However, conveniently forgets to mention Froch-Dirrell as a prime example of this stupidity where Froch was rewarded simply for walking forwards and being the champion. And, of course that Froch was the champion on Saturday.

But that doesn't fit with your selective argument, does it Kev?

"And am simply stating my, well-founded, opinion that he is a dreadful poster"

you have also called me an idiot do you want me to quote that.

the guardian article is dumb but Froch vs Dirrell has no relevnce to Froch vs Kessler. in the dirrell fight both fighters were missing, froch won as he was at least attempting to engage and attack dirrell was just running around the ring.

In which case, I apologise for calling you an idiot - that was out of line. I just think that your posts don't show much in the way of logic and reasoning. You're better than almost all of the flotsam in the GF.

Froch-Dirrell has relevance to that article where, after railing against the terrible scoring system, he brings up a key example of the hometown decision and champion's prerogative without acknowledging Froch as the lucky winner of just that in Nottingham.

Wow, that's me put in my place. It might have been more effective without the question mark though, don't you think?

Em... so you're trying to say you put a lot of effort into posts that were compete crap?

You think Kessler fights out of the same stances as Taylor? The only similarity between those two is that they're men, fight orthodox and fight at super-middle. Taylor, for his flaws, was much more versatile than Kessler is as well.

And Froch accurate? Wow. Just wow. His main issue has always been loading up, swinging for the fences and getting off-balance. Taylor nearly knocked his head off because of that. Dirrell caught him very hard because of it too.

If your point was that your writing's better when you 'make an effort' that's not true either. I'm not going to be a grammar nazi on a boxing forum, but at least get the lasics right and not capitalise Left Hook or write second as 2nd.

Taylor/Kessler isn't the worst comparison. Both 1-2 fighters, rely on the jab/right hand combo. Not many hooks, Taylor throws a few more, but Kessler does more bodywork. Taylor's handspeed is faster now, Kessler's has gone downhill. Kessler has better stamina and strength and toughness. I can see the comparison stylistically.

One thing I don't get is that people are saying that Froch hurt Kessler so many times, but also that he was very accurate. If he was so accurate and he was capable of hurting Kessler regularly why the hell didn't he KO him? Something doesn't add up in that equation.

    should I even bother......

Taylor is simular to Kessler in the several ways. and the main point of the comparison is that Taylor vs Froch is the closest fight you can find to compare to Froch vs Kessler (pre fight)

    very orthodox
fast jab is there best punch
follow it up with a solid right hand
    good but not great defence
    technically sound

Froch is accurate with "his power shots". guarantee when the punch stats for the fight come out froch will be up on jabs and power shots landed. do you think Taylor just had 1 bad round against Froch or something? He was taking big shots regularly from round 6 onwards.

and last time I checked you don't spell basic with an L??

....or misspell basics as "lasics" :yep. I agree with Rob. Froch had a bad night at the office. Kessler didn't come up with anything that Froch, on form, wouldn't have been able to cope with. Froch got complacent when he was on top and it cost him. Froch could easily win a rematch....but then he may lose again...it was that close.

 fair point. My own lasics were lacking there.
